The AM carrier setting? Not yet.
My power supply puts out 14.5V so I'm good there. My other one is at 13.9V.
The amp sits atop a nice dual fan kit so no heat related issues.
I just need a radio set up with the proper drive to run it.
I want to use my new Superstar SS88HL to drive the amp. Only problem, is that it's dead key is set at 1W but putting out over 45W PEP, which is too much, and it has a MOSFET final. I'll have to open it up and turn it down.
It has the power wire upgrade done, and a dual fan kit is on it's way for it. My problem, is that my radios do more or less than 30-35W PEP.
My DX88HL keys 1W on AM, but swings past 40W on low, so that's too much PEP for the amp. On SSB, it's right around 30-35W.
It sure is pretty to look at...
I just bought a mint condition DX 667V with 1 2SC2290 driving 4 2SC2879 Toshibas. The big question is, what is the max amount of PEP I can drive it with? I have gotten 50 different answers on this question, ranging from "no more than 30W PEP" to "PEP doesn't matter, long as dead key is 1-2W"...
I pulled the trigger on one, just for the nostalgia. Had the upgraded voltage regulator put in it, and unlocked clarifier, seems to perform like a brand new 30 year old Galaxy should. I'm happy with it so far.
I just bought one from Trucks and opted for the Toshiba voltage regulator upgrade. I'm glad that I did, after seeing many complaints about shorted voltage regulators and blown finals.
Honestly, my most favorite ham rig I ever owned, would have to be the Kenwood TS 950 SDX. That radio sounded like a commercial radio station with silky smooth audio. I loved it.
I understand the rules, and wish to enter the contest...
Because my eyesight isn't what it used to be, patience isn't what it used to be, my mind doesn't function like it used to, and I don't have the equipment required to do it. 30 years ago, I WAS doing all of my own work...not so much anymore. I certainly do not want to ruin a 50 year old radio...
Condx here in the TN valley, have been pure dogshit for literally weeks.
Occasionally, I hear short skip (FL, S.C. N.C. GA, VA and east coast) sometimes, but never for very long before it's gone.
I have scoured the internet, looking for a shop that specializes in vintage CB restorations, with no luck, as far as anyone getting back to me.
Anyone here, willing to take it on? I need the radio recapped and aligned. A couple pots tightened up, and RX/TX light working properly.
I'm hoping...
