Ended up having some really great QSO's yesterday! I landed on one of my favorite frequencies above 40 and ended up talking to several folks for two hours straight.
The ability to have these kinds of conversations is the main thing that keeps me off the regular channels and up in the freeband...
I hope I'm wrong, but as far as I know a full schematic for that radio never did surface.
I remember reading that some Brazilian techs did try and reverse engineer one at some point, and they got as far as figuring out the PLL part and had one 980 modded to have export frequencies in it...
That's hilarious! Here it's flocks of birds that routinely explode themselves on the power lines.......
Absolute gong show on the radio today.....Sunday and good conditions makes the radio pretty unuseable. I literally have giant pileups of stations on every channel, and all at S9+. Too much...
My eldest son (I have five kids) has been on the cycle of drug abuse and rehab since he was 15. He's 33 this year. He gets totally f****ed up on drugs, then goes to rehab, successfully completes the program which is either a one or five year program. The he gets approved for housing, moves...
LOL! That's insane. My Anytone 5555N2 is bang on frequency from the moment I turn it on! Is the 90 minutes with or without the crystal oven?
Boggles my mind that people put up with Ranger gear when there are so many better (and cheaper) alternatives out there these days. No offence...
That change in pitch only happens if the radio is mis-aligned. They should sound the same or at least very very close. My 5555N2, my 6666, and my 148GTL all sound the same on USB and LSB, but my Navaho 457 has more treble on LSB and so does my TRC-449.
Doing the frequency alignment after a...
Of course you didn't. The people experiencing the splatter were on other nearby channels and likely didn't know where it was coming from!
If I'm chatting on the radio and splatter wipes me out, I usually just change channels or find something else to do until it's gone........I'm not going to...
No need to yell. That is correct....the beta is the updated software to run on the "long case" 5555N2 which gives it most of the abilities of the short case version. The other software posted later in the thread is to roll back to the original firmware if you have problems.
The upgrading...
I am as usual spending far to much time working for a living, and not enough on the radio on any frequency LOL! Maybe later today I'll find some time.........
I like the idea in principle, but I think running sideband on 33 or 34 is just going to piss off a lot of AM operators. That's what happened when we tried 35 USB last year......I got cussed out every time I called CQ on sideband! Channel 40 is useless on the west coast due to all the Espanol...
I only make the occasional contact with other WWDX members, but when I do it's usually either on 36 or 37LSB. I made more WWDX connections back when we had the 16LSB thing going on weekends a couple years back. Most of the time I'm chasing international DX on 27.555 USB. I do talk to Texas...
It's a little unclear whether five posts means starting five original threads, or if five responses to existing threads is sufficient.........maybe Moleculo can clarify for you.
Had my second farthest contact ever yesterday... Paul 43WA145 in Dongara, Western Australia. 14,500 Km from my QTH.
My longest contact was with a different Western Australia station a couple of years ago which was 14,950 Km from me.
Made the contact on 27.560 USB and he was the only station...
It looks very interesting. The Aquario radio looks interesting as well. They both appear to be a similar very small size. I wonder how the power output of the new Anytone compares to the Aquario?
I'm not a fan of the display on the Anytone prototype version with all the different fonts and...
I found this online for CRT SS9900v4 and it should be correct:
Turn off the radio.
Press and hold both the MENU and BAND buttons simultaneously.
Turn on the radio while still holding the buttons.
Once the radio powers on, release the buttons. The display should show "HF BAND".
Turn the channel...
I remember Craig audio gear for cars, but only vaguely remember them making CB's. Perhaps they weren't sold up here in Canada. When I got into CB in the mid 1980's up here Realistic gear, especially the Navaho line were by far the most common radios. There were plenty of Cobra & President...
The symptom of voltage randomly turning on/off sure makes it seem like a cold solder joint or broken trace somewhere. Have a look through a magnifier at the area around the power related components of the VCO.
Just made contact with Gus 88XX01 in Habana Cuba! I've spoken to him a handful of times in the past as well. There can't be to many folks on the radio in Cuba, but I've had a few contacts there over the years.......... He's on there calling CQ again as I write this on 27.560 USB if anyone...
