    Mobile 3-foot mobile antennas

Thanks, you're right about the OP, I needed to be more clear and provide more info. At any rate, I'm kind of glad, in a way, that the height seems to be the main issue and not the antenna itself, I have a 3-foot Sirio and I love that thing, I might even put it back on since I'm rarely running...

    Mobile 3-foot mobile antennas

I'm sure I'd do much better with a 6-foot antenna like your Sirio but I'm looking for a 3-foot'er, do you have any suggestions? Believe me, if I didn't have a height restriction, the 1st antenna I'd be putting on the roof would be a Sirio 5000 or something similar.

    Mobile 3-foot mobile antennas

OK, can you suggest another 3-foot antenna that I can try? I do have a Sirio Turbo 800 and it performs very similar except won’t handle anything over 150W which is why I tried this Midland one. Are you saying all 3-foot antennas will have this problem because they are very short or is there a...

OK, Im open to suggestions, what’s the problem?

    Mobile 3-foot mobile antennas

It could be common mode current on the outside of the coax or because the radio is too close to the antenna, since this is a mobile application. Like I said it’s not perfect but it works.

    Mobile 3-foot mobile antennas

Thanks, I've also heard that from others, I figured it's a 20 year old truck so I'm not that concerned with paint discoloration, besides I'm not planning on running that much power all the time, it was just a test to see if the antenna could handle it. Yeah, it's overkill for a 3-footer but I...

    Mobile 3-foot mobile antennas

Everyone knows that 3-foot antennas for CB band severely restrict RF performance and efficiency and provide a very narrow bandwidth, but it's something us city dwellers have to settle for... I've owned Wilson Little Wil and Sirio Turbo 800, both of which are 3-foot tall and work surprisingly...

Bearcat 980 SSB variable power mod

Thanks for the replies! I believe it's RM Italy AD-203 stinger board so it should be fairly easy to just add a switch and call it a day I suppose instead of messing with variable power.

    Sirio 5000pl length

Thanks 357magnum, I've been an amrron member for years, thought it would be appropriate to ident as such... Regarding Sirio, agreed, some don't even bother responding, others take forever but Sirio seems to be on top of it! Quality product and customer service no doubt!

    Sirio 5000pl length

I received the following reply from Sirio: Good morning thank to choose our products. No, isn’t possible use a different mix base/radiator because any models require its specific coil into the base to have the best impedance matching. The power rating depend to the coil of radiator and not to...

Bearcat 980 SSB variable power mod

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I should have been more clear, the radio I have has been equipped with a “stinger” mod which yields around 120W PEP so I’m trying to find a way to turn the power down, there is no button to turn the stinger off. Thanks!

    Sirio 5000pl length

Yeah, I didn't think it would be able to handle 300W; on a positive note, I found a mobile antenna that just might fit the bill: https://www.avera.eu/midland-products/midland-lux700-pl.html Supposedly it can handle 600W and is 3-foot tall so I'm going to place an order and see how this one...

    Sirio 5000pl length

Well, the 3-foot whip actually does resonate, although it has a very narrow bandwidth. I'm almost certain connecting it to Sirio 5000 base would "de-tune" it, since it's designed to use the Sirio 800 base so when I change that, it will have impact on resonance... It's kind of an expensive...

    Sirio 5000pl length

Thanks for the suggestions, you're right, height restriction is the main reason. The other is I don't want to drill but might have to... Aside from those concerns, do you think the 5000 base with a heavier duty coil coupled with the 3-foot whip of Sirio Turbo 800 will be able to handle the...

Does anyone know if a variable power mod exists for the 980 SSB?

    Sirio 5000pl length

Understood, I mean with a 3-ft whip I'm sacrificing efficiency either way, I just need it to withstand around 300-watts on 10m band. After about 150W I start getting SWR anomalies with the Sirio Turbo 800. According to the manual it's supposed to withstand 200W continuous and 1000W CW but in...

    Sirio 5000pl length

Blackcat630: you're right, I thought the stinger was referring to the coil but I'm mistaken, that's what I meant, the 5000 does have a bigger copper coil at the base that can handle more watts, I just need to know if I can stick the 3-foot whip that comes with the 800 on the 5000 base and tune...

    Sirio 5000pl length

I don't mean to hijack the thread but have a somewhat related question... I have a Sirio Turbo 800 Blue mobile antenna (shortest Sirio makes) and was wondering how it would tune if I take the coiled whip off and put it on a Sirio Turbo 5000 stinger which handles much more power? I have a...
