Picked up a cobra 29 for a few bucks at a yard sale. Radio doesn't get out. No transmission. I opened it up and found that someone tried to install a swing kit. Looks like they over heated and damaged the board on the positive side of the cap. Is there a way to fix this with a jumper or...
Like I said I don't necessarily disagree. I have ordered a hard mount antenna. I was just sharing my experience. The only ground straps I have are those that came stock on my vehicle. Meh maybe I'm just lucky, or like you said problems are just being masked some how.

I wasn't suggesting he buy that one. Instead of posting 5 different links I posted one as an example. A little Google he can find everything and save some coin also. Guess I should have explained.

What kind of vehicle? If it is a pickup you could fab a mount off the front of the bed. If it's a suv or a car you could fab a trunk lip mount or something. I think JJD made something for a box truck.

While I don't necessarily disagree because I don't have enough experience to disagree. I have to say that I run 500 watts threw a Wilson 5000 mag mount everyday with no problems for months now.
With that being said I have a Predator 10k on the way.

Hard to say. Do you have a cb shop local? If your swr was like 2 or even 2.5 I would say drop the maul but being that high tells me there is a problem. Probably in the amp. A good cb shop could test for reflecting power.

Right on the Texas star Web site the spec sheet calls for 20 watts of drive. Your over driving the amp and saturating the pills probably throwing everything off. The next thing you will get is 10 ohm smoke.

I am not the most experienced person here but sounds to me like with the variable all the way up you are over driving the amp. An Rfx 75 with a 15w dk seems like way to much drive. Unless you want to smoke it.
Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.

Change out the breakers and smoke alarms. Add snap ferrets to the coax at the antenna base and the power cords. Maybe?

This. I never run power out of my home or near my home. The people next door next call will be to the FCC. Who needs that shit?
