Well something is happening as I am getting a lot of US chatter on 11m at the moment. Nice sunny day south, deep south. Then again I do have a nice antenna these days.
Bit difficult at the moment as the antenna is mounted on a 10 foot pole. When I get thicker coax I will be bringing it down and remounting this time on the roof of my house for more elevation, but for now I am just enjoying it and it is working very well.
I measured the antenna to 22 feet 6 inches from base to tip, all I did was to lengthen the last thin length. I did measure the overlap at the first main join and it was 5.5 inches. ( previous owner had set it at this distance and marked it on the tube with black permanent marker)
I ran out...
I was given a 5/8 wave High gain. Measured at 19 feet with 105" radials and the SWR was too high. Spoke to a work colleague last night who is a dedicated HAM and he did a quick calculation and came up with 22 and half feet for 27 meg. He calculated the radials should be a little over 108 "

I have been interested in the S9-175 but you just don't see them for sale down this neck of the southern woods. ;)
What price did you pay for it, used or new. cheers

I was into UHF radio down here a while back but the amount of drongos using it put me off and it was worse during school holidays. Hand held UHF 5 watt radios were within the kid's budgets and available from any radio shack type store.
Now, 27 meg has it's fair share of immature old...
Interested to know how it performs. I am going to Vegas next year to get married by an Elvis:D, I wonder if I could pick up a bargain like yours.
cheers

I was chatting to gent on LSB about 18 miles away with my 45HP and was getting great audio reports. I know that there are many here who have radios assisted by separate amps but I wonder how they go with the built in amp rigs as you don't tend to read about them bragging on this forum.:laugh...
I think the US market has been exposed to some high power rigs such as the Magnum S3-350, S9-175 What happened to them, any good or are they now flung to the slag pile of radios with good ideas but poor execution.
I kind of like the idea of a radio with a built in amp .
Down under the...
I have owned a Magnum S45HP for a couple of years and am very happy with it.
Kind of following the Magnum range now but don't hear much now of what is in the pipe line ...any clues as to what is being offered.
cheers

Would it be possible for you to wait until the warranty period has lapsed to consider purchasing from the factory the replacement fix processor and having it replaced by a qualified local technician. No postage, no loss of product on the mailing etc....
Could Dave assist you in making this...
My s-45HP is a good talker and very clear audio. I mainly use it on SSB.( mainly LSB ) I pick up the US west coast and some of the southern states on channel 38, 02 and 08.
I like it.
I like the idea of the s9-175 with the extra transmit power however I bought a S45HP a while ago from Dave at Yeticom and it has has been a very good radio. No probs and great sound. The only limitations is the antenna which I will address. I am going to sit for my F call licence so I can...
