Australia embraced the 27 meg radios but later when UHF was introduced the country then adopted that system which offered very clear audio over the crackly 27meg. Although a clearer signal it didn't have the range of AM/SSB but was assisted with the use of repeater stations.

Not sure what a stupid hawk is, a US term perhaps?, but in any case I have always admired the look of the Cobra 2000 base and down here they come up for sale from time to time, but not as many as in your country.
They seem to have a good reputation and if one were to come up at the right...
I have a S45HP and yesterday I was listening in on some gents having a chat. One was in Western Australia which is 2300 miles to the west of me. The bloke talking was in WA.
Skip was in .**Jump_im**
Well the skip was in yesterday and I was talking to a gent in South Australia, I'm in Victoria so that is about 450 miles to the west. I only have a 1/4 wave antenna and he has a 5/8 ground plane with radials . He was booming in and he received me 5 and 9. The audio on the S45HP is just so clear.
Dave, you're back.
The radio shipped very quickly, thanks mate. The audio is very clear and all I need now is to improve the antenna and the coax. A friend reckons the reception is very clear.

Is this a Canada/USA problem only. Al was prepared to ship to Australia but were out of stock at the time and I need to source one whilst the Aussie dollar was higher than the green back. After I purchased one via Indonesia the AUD slid back below parity but is now slightly higher.

Sam Lewis in a return email told me that the new batch of 45HP's hitting the US were same spec as previous, therefore No 12 m band.
I got mine from another source. I am very impressed with the audio.
Ummm, ah, NZ is New Zealand...and Bruce is my name.
It will now make sense. From a country that abreviates everything, ie IA, AK, CA, WA, Wi.... you guys have got to get out more.

I have ordered an S45 HP from GI Joes on the 22/09/2011 and after speaking to them delivery was going to be " worst case scenario " of 3 weeks delay as none were in stock. I have checked my account and it is still pending but now the website states none available until December 2011.

Roger that,
I heard USPS is going broke..I hope they don't go belly up mid way.
Seriously, looking forward to your view on the radio. I wish to know how it compares to the 45HP, ease of use, pro's and cons.
cheers mate

I was given this old beat up Uniden Grant . The skip was starting to come in and I was picking up the USA on channel 11 LSB. Not the best audio and I have received Arkansas on a good day.
I think this was broadcasting from Honolulu as I get him most days when the skip is strong.
