I have a ts850 an love it. BUT when they break the parts are hard to find and some connot be found without a doner radio.
The older tube radios are fun to operate and require more operator input but also can be a pain to repair.
I would save my money and get a newer rig. :thumbup1:
I took a direct hit to my ar10. Nothing left but where it was mounted to the mast.It also hit my service entrance. Set the breaker pannel on fire along with my stove. Everything in the house that was plugged in was toast. If I hadent been home My house would have burned to the ground.
I ran a pair of 13b2's @ 120' when I lived in Louisiana. Here in Bama they were up 50' and still very strong. I am selling my 2, 13b2 and going to try a pair of 2m12 m2. Luv those antennas. You got a great deal.
So you can go strait to Amature Extra without passing/taking the tech. or general test? I always thought you had to pass teck. before you could get a General ticket. And pass General before you could get an Extra ticket.:confused1:
I got two "ja's" my first contacts into Japan. The dxpedition on christmas Island was coming in strong. Ten hasnt been this good on a long time.
When I passed my extra I decided to change my call. checked the box and watched the data base. I was upgraded to extra but no call change, and no reason why. The next testing secion I went too, I told the ve's what had happened and what I wanted to do, they told me to be shure to check the box...
I would do the "shack in a box" Ts-2000. A good manual tuner, and a multi band omni for 6 and up. Then throw up some wire for the lower bands. Then after you find out what bands you are enjoying more, spend your money on antennas for that band.:thumbup1:
The band cops are everywhere, just spin the dial. Some of them have no other reason in life but to make shure you operate as they think you should.
Lots of good people out there also, you just have to find the group you fit in with.
