I've been the yaesu route. They are great as long as you never need repair. If you do its cheaper just to buy a new one. I went back with a ham 4. At least I can get parts and repair it myself.:thumbup1:
Loop will work great on 40-80. I use a full wave loop cut for 3.80 and it works fine on 40. It hears great on 20 but I havent used it much for transmit.
If your gonna use the loop on 20 I would suggest lader line feed. Just 40-80 coax fed will do fine. Coax will work on 20 but will have...
I think there are some known problems with the "pro" series displays. I wouldnt let that stop you from getting the rig you want.
Now if they were saying the rig came back and they could do nothing to fix it, that would get me worried.
I have a icom 706 been to the shop once still luv the...
Hard to say just where to spend your money without knowing where you will spend most of your time.I wouldnt jump in to an expencive set up til you know what bands you are going to operate on the most. I would keep it simple. An ht with an out side antenna will do very well if you have local...
Well, look at it this way. If you build one and it doesnt work, you learned not to build that design again. So it would only be a partial failure.:tt2:
I built a nvis diopole " I'll see if I can find the design" I was trying to get better results within 300 miles on 75. My 75 meter loop at 25' did much better. even as close as 30 miles the loop did better. I tuned it up on 10 using the same 30 mile contact and the loop was still stronger. That...
I've played with wire antennas a lot over the last year, a bunch of different types in any configuration possable. All of which worked "ok" From flat tops and inverted vees on the tower to strung up in trees to laying on the ground or layin on the roof. I made the same contacts with the diopole...
Back when I was doing the jeep thing we use to make overnight trips. We used cb for communications from jeep to jeep, and I had my icom 706 and a few ham sticks for hf in case we needed it. As long as one of your vehicles has an hf rig in the case of an emergency that should work. Getting all...
I have'nt used a balun that large, but what about using a gama and voltage feed the quad.
The only antenna I use a balun on is a 160 meter loop, and thats just for multi band operation.
Maby someone else will chime in .
Thanks, Im trying to get a trip together for an archery elk hunt in Montrose. Hopefulle will be out there later this year. Go ahead and get your general and we can hook-up on hf.
