Just curious, Im running a Wilson 5k (thru the roof mount), 11.75ft of coax (1/2wl of rg58a/u), using a mfj 259b antenna anylizer' Ch 1=1.2swr,46ohms,and 0 react, ch 20=1.1swr, 43ohms, and 2 react ch40=1.3swr, 39ohm, and 8 react. I've never been able to achieve 50ohm reading on any antenna...

So you want it quieter than setting 1? Im using a 2018(mic talkback is all the way down). And unless something is wrong with my radio, setting 1 is as louud as 15. Plus the mic talkback feature doesnt wok with this radio anyhow, nor with my cobra 148 side mic.

Anyone know yet the layout of the 980's? Which resistor goes to the talkback section? Don't know about all 980's, but my 980 talkback set on 1 is really loud, can't tell much diff set on 1 or 15.

I hear people saying, "I replaced my knob with a heavy duty one"! The one in it now is a 250ohm, ?? Watts. It has a blue plastic body . What is the heavy duty pot and where can i get one? Local radio has nothin, they suck!

No just the vr5 and cap, resistor mod. Before cap and resis, carrier was 4w, Ch1-40. I've done these same mods to other 25's with no problems.

Searched all the net, found nothin on carrier balance. Ch1 has a carrier of 3/4W, Ch15 has 1 1/4W, Ch25 has 1 3/4W, Ch40 has 2 1/4W. Have done the swing mod ( 100ohm resistor, 35v-470uf) vr5 (not maxed out), only till forward mod gain stops showing.

With this question in an earlier post, my washington has no power to the dosy meter thru the antenna connector, but it does show modulation on the radio's meter. Guessing the 1969 is blown.So can the 2078 final be used in this radio?

Thanks to those that helped on this situation, got it all goin now. It came down to a SWR/OHM. I re-installed a new coax and roof mount, SWR now is 1.0 ch16-28 with 47ohm (according to the mfj269). That 1/2-3/4W carrier from the radio is now an 85W carrier, and the 6-8 W PEP from the radio...

The mod v works fine on 20-25W radios. Forget about a texas star, this radio aint gonna drive one period! Although i like texas star. Lookin at tnt / X-force l, something low drive with driver built in. Thx everyone

I've got a dx500v now, this radio only pushes it to 300 watts. I also have a ts mod v Before the 500( not to worry, radio only pushes the mod v to 1w swing 14w, the 500 still keys 100w swins to 325w Amp does more with my cobra 25. Im looking for an amp maybe with a driver. Suggestions?
