Thanks, that was exactly what I needed to hear! My new radio, VX-8r arrives tomorrow, and I plan on spending the day (school was canceled due to inclement weather) monitoring and learning how to program it and such. Thanks again.

Just passed the technician test today (got a 100%) and after seeing your review I'm ordering my first radio--the VX-8R with optional gps and mic attachment, scoft case, & rapid charger. Been doing a lot of looking around for about 3 weeks as to this radio or the 7R, and I didn't see a reason...
