You are saying that you have issues with the term "issues"?
Bummer.
Mind numbing drugs will be in your future if you continue to sweat the small stuff dude. LOL!
Gotcha. My apologies.
I am a little quick to jump the gun on Echolink haters. It seems to be popular to bag on things that are different or misunderstood. I took your post for something it wasn't.
No it isn't the same as Echolink. QSO.net is chat software, and echolink is communications software with chat software built in. If you think that Echolink is only chat software, you haven't any idea what Echolink is.
I mounted a Predator 10k on my Jeep Cherokee using a C channel aluminum rail and stainless U-bolts. I ran ground wires to each corner of the roof rack. I have an antenna that performs very well. There are no structural problems because it uses both roof rack rails at the same time.
Please make sure you follow my instructions before you buy parts and start soldering.
As far as tuning up the radio....
Take it one step at a time my friend. Get it fixed, then worry about the rest.
Good luck,
Mopar
The answer to your question would be to apply the Cobra 148GTL instructions to your radio.
But, if that is an older finer Uniden.... Don't do yourself the disservice of making it a lesser radio by modifying it. I would leave it alone and purchase an amplifier for it. A receiving station most...
What do you mean, you broke it? The ferrite slug? If so, I may have a solution.
I don't have one of those radios apart right now to look at the can to see what type it is, but you may be able to unsolder the can and get the slug out from the bottom. They are usually symmetrical and have a...
Maybe. It depends on the extent of the damage. Sometimes all that gets smoked is the reverse polarity diode. If that is the case it is an easy fix. You can check it out if you are brave. All you will have to do is cut the diode shown in the picture below and power up the radio and see if it...
I wish that I could give you guys a decent report about the antenna. But unfortunately I didn't get to test the antenna very well. I had to give it back before I got a chance to really put it side by side with other antennas. For the little time I had it, it really seemed to work well.
One...
I am a huge fan of the Francis. I have owned and used both the Silverload and the Francis many times. I would use the Francis if I could. It is cheaper, works just as well or better, is more durable, and it is lighter making it easier to keep in a mount. If you are running an amplifier bigger...
bob85,
I have some detailed photos of the Goldenrod 45 if you are interested. It might help you in your quest to build one. PM me an email, and I will send em.
I will tell you this. It isn't nearly as sturdy as it looks in the pictures. It is a very fragile antenna. The mast is no more...
I believe that dropping the Code requirement was a mistake. The code was easy the way the testing was set up. You could learn it in a week or less if you put your mind to it. But, losing the code was an inevitable conclusion as the rest of the world dropped the requirement country by country...
