Always best to install software first then the cable. At least the software install will copy the drivers to the hard drive so when the cable is plugged in it may find the driver there. The serial converter in this cable is a commonly used one so you should not have any issues either way.
OK I figured out what my problem was. My radio is fine and performing better (2-15 deadkey swinging 5-41 on AM and swinging to 32 SSB) simply because I had my mic gain too low. I am still trying to get the best sounding adjustments but mic gain set to 38 and road devil set to half got good...
So what are the issues with the new K40?
Just set up my car with a new K40 base load for my old trunk lip mount and am getting a great flat 1.1 - 1.2.
I do have the Sirio Performer 5000 on the way for my other vehicle but like the idea of the shorter antenna of the K40 hitting fewer obstacles.
The quality sound and features of the cre 8900 does appeal to me more than the sound and the bling of the hammer wars. Just hoping to make more contacts than I am able to now but atleast I have a good starting point.
Yesterday morning I was also "listening" to the DX on 27.385 from Ireland...
Thanks for the advise. You are right, I don't have a good way to test the audio and should probably send it to a trusted tech. I looked up DTB Radio and may give them a try.
Yes I guess I am getting about 40+ on SSB.
Never been one to take a screw driver to my radios but which one would I look for to tune the output on the cre 8900? Not sure I will get the courage up to start now on my best and most expensive radio yet but I am interested in learning. I did just...
Well I am just getting back into the hobby after couple decades and there seems to be quite a large selection of equipment now. Do you have any recommendations for an amp mainly for SSB DXing from my new cre 8900 base station with a 70's era 1/2 wave Big Stick. Probably need a Sirio Gainmaster...
My output on my new cre 8900 is 2-16 watt dead key swinging 3-31 watts on AM.
Seems like it is about the wattage of one final not two. Would it be possible to transmit if one was bad?
Bought my Magnum 257HP and CRE 8900 from them. Great website and selection and free shipping. Because of the quality of the website I feel I am dealing with professionals not some guy in his basement and that is worth something to me.
Guess I will keep the cover off and check how hot it gets, thanks for the tip. I was surprised about its output based on the comments here about this and other 2sc1965 clones.
Yes I did find your info and just finished adding a resistor and it worked like a charm. Thanks again for sharing, can't wait for the DX to start rollin'!
