    TYT TH-9000 opinions?

Same guy! I was going to order that same radio from him until I came across a thread on this forum about him. But if you get the radio I would also be interested in the review. :) I'm looking to get the UHF version here soon. FWIW, MTC has the Kenwood TM 281 on sale for $138.95 and free...

Antenna/motor home with a fiberglass roof

Is the antenna mounted above the roof line? If it is and falls within height restrictions, I would try the sheet metal idea. :) You could try insulating the metal pole from the mirror and see if it would function as a dipole set up. How is the mirror mount grounded to the lower frame? Maybe...

Help With Amplifier Set Up For Semi Truck

I'll second the suggestion for a SSB radio. IO don't really care how much power you run but please make sure your radio is transmitting a clean signal to start with and not splattering all over the place etc. :) I hate being on one channel and hearing someone else, three to five channels away...

    Cobra 89 XLR

I'm actually happy the way it performs now but am concerned rather or not any of the above cut / clipped diodes or transistors will shorten the life of the radio. I plan to only use it for local contacts so now need for it to talk to the otherside of the country. The other radio I have will be...

    Cobra 89 XLR

I've found that before however I didn't bother paying attention the diagram at the bottom. "D18" is a diode with 13.8v in and 9v out to "TR16." Will the increase in volts damage it? "TR14" is apparently a (transistor) "limiter." So what does "D11" do? I wish I had the tools and equipment to...

    Cobra 89 XLR

I was looking for some info on the web last night for some adjustment info on my 89 XLR. The only thing I could find on it was the "power" and "modulation" mods (clipped limiter). The previous owner(s) apparently did those mods and it wasn't what I was looking for. When I got the radio it...

So i screwed up and bought a dx959 refurb on ebay

I have a DX949 on a 102" whip and get great reports from the locals. The only thing I didn't like about was the built in speaker but an external speaker fixed that.

    Baofeng UV-5R as a 2 way radio

I would suggest using the MURS frequencies. It's a another license free service. If you use the MURS frequencies remember to program the radio to do narrow band on the two 154 MHZ frequencies and wide band on the three, 151 MHZ frequencies. Or you can set them all to narrow band. :)

    Front end overload?

Tried the adjusting the power and mic gain on the CB radio. Neither appeared to make any difference. However this evening the interference didn't appear as bad for some reason. Didn't change anything. I also noticed as I changed the channel on the CB radio it also effected different...

    Front end overload?

I spoke to soon. I got a jumper cable and did some more testing. On some frequencies the CB, with the filter installed, is still causing interference on the Kenwood even with the squelch level turned up.

    Front end overload?

Update I ordered the "MAGNUM DF-3000" (RF Limited) from H&Y and just tried it on the radio. With the filter installed in line with the CB antenna, the CB could not break squelch on the Kenwood and the Kenwood, when keyed up on full power (65 watts) would only cause a very, very small bump...

    when did the FCC

Do you have the correct PL tones or proper offset to the repeater? I appear to have some issue with one of the local repeaters down my way. The main repeater doesn't appear to activate until I release the PTT on both my HT and my mobile. I tried monitoring it with one and then the other to hear...

    when did the FCC

Nope not a recording. Got in my truck today and I heard as soon as I turned it on. Then about two more times before I got to the interstate (about five minutes). Some time back someone got on there and said something about their food and the owner getting arrested. Don't know if it was true...

    when did the FCC

There's a little BBQ joint advertising on 19 by me. Drives me nuts! They first started out asking for a "break channel" and when someone responded they would advertise there "specials." I didn't mind that at all. Now they don't listen / monitor the radio first and just start announcing their...

    PACE CB166 INSTALLATION

I have the same two radios as that guy does (in the back ground). And if that was a Cobra 89 above the DX300 I have one like it also. :) CHRISLONDON can you post some pictures of it when you get it setup? FWIW I read that the antenna on the General Lee was a Radio Shack model.

    Front end overload?

Your right I got that mixed when talking about 5/8, 1/4 etc and was thinking about the Little Will I mounted on the other truck at the time. :headbang

    Front end overload?

Thanks Shockwave. I thought the TVI filters only prevented the radio from causing interference to other devices. I didn't think it would help with the reception side of it. Any suggestions on a particular unit? BTW I forgot about the 5/8th wave antenna being close to a 1/4 wave CB antenna...

    Front end overload?

I just installed a Kenwood TM 281A radio in my Dodge Ram club cab. I all ready had a Galaxy DX949 CB in the truck. The CB's antenna is an 102" whip mounted on the driver's side behind the cab. The Antenna for the 2 meter radio is a 5/8th wave Laird mounted in the center of the cab with a NMO and...

Ham Test Study App on your Android

I know this is an old thread but ...... FWIW I found another practice exam app while looking for the above. It's called "Amateur Radio Exam 1.0 Free" I lets you pick which exam to practice, keeps score, has an option to go back and practice the questions you previously got wrong and more...
