Yeah just came across one where you and the other guy here helping me were talking about the 257 vs. optima and the Optima won. But Ive heard that the Optima doesnt talk well on AM. I wanted something that would do both. But it looks like I would have to get an AM for the truck and SSB for the home?

Wait a minute lol Isnt the Optima a Magnum 257? lol. One thing I noticed about the mag 257 is that it doesnt have a true frequency counter, so as you mess with the clarifier it doesnt adjust on the screen showing where you're at.. Does the Optimum do that>?

And thats on a 400$ radio? I seen some people say its all good and other ( like yourself ) have had problems. Is there any other radios you recommend other than the one you listed?

Anyone every heard of the stryker 955 being bad at times on SSB because of the AGC?

I'll check out that optima again. Any certain mods worth doing to it, or just a normal Peak and tune?

How are the rci's in terms of on air sound quality? What about their PEP and RMS when tuned? What about over all quality? Assuming the 2970 is the top?

Hey guys, Im brand new to radios and looking for one that is good in both AM and SSB. I started off looking for a Cobra, then went to a General Lee, then an amp driven Lee and now Im looking for something with SSB. I thought ehh why not. Id rather have it and not use it then to want it later...
