I've been using the wilson 1000 mag mount for a year now and its incredible. I love that thing, ive made more dx contacts than i can count, even canadian stations, all barefoot with 12 watts.
Not only that but ive talked 20+ miles across state lines from my driveway at night... in the right...
Thats very cool, do you like your 980? I have been considering one.
sounds like your dipole is working well even at 10ft. From my understanding when mounted horizontally, a 1/2 wave dipole works best mounted at least 18ft high, so youd be golden at 20ft. You would probably see an increase in...
My swr was flat across the band i was surprised, i was expecting to have to adjust it. Dr. DIPOLE knows what he is doing! Ive got it running East/Southeast and West-Northwest. I didnt have much time to play with it because i had to go to work. Monitored 38lsb (thats what im usually on) for about...
Thanks for the reference there, i will keep that in mind if I decide to go with the RCI.
And yes, sideband is my thing. There aren't many locals using CB around here from what i can tell, ive only talked to a couple. However, ive made quite a few DX QSOs with 12 watts of power and a wilson mag...
Yes i was considering that but hate that the roger beep is always going to be on unless i mod it, im not technically inclined enough to do that my own and like i said, no cb shops or techs around to work on my radios. The 980 would be a no brainer if not for that damn beeping.
Im not sure where to go next.. im looking for a ssb capable radio to use in my first base station but im not sure which.
Its gotta be rock solid on ssb and decent on AM. im tired of the drift issues that i have with my 959. Looking to upgrade... some ive been considering... the Uniden PC122XL...
You got a good deal then, i dropped 100 on my new power supply, almost the same size. They all do the same thing too hahaha. Ill still enjoy it though, im sure ill be getting my moneys worth.
Awesome, that is impressive. Was that with only 12w? I remember hobie! Was he talking barefoot on his homemade moxon?
Like i said, i would have built the dipole but i am too impatient and dont have much faith in myself when it comes to building things. I'm afraid it would sit around unfinished...
Just an update...
I went with the Dr. Dipole and had a balun added. Its on its way along with 50ft of workman rg8 mini, and a jetstream JTPS31MB power supply.
Until i get a base unit ill have to take the galaxy 959 out of my vehicle and use it inside, all my other radios are AM only.
Cant...
I was strongly considering making my own, but i'm pretty inept when it comes to making stuff myself lol. Seems like it would all end up costing about the same whether I buy it or make it since Id have to get a balun and even a soldering gun. If i'm happy with the results i'll probably end up...
I shopped around for about 2 hours last night looking at Power supplies and reading reviews and i ended up going with the Jetstream JTPS31MB, i paid $99 shipped. Hopefully its a good one, i read a lot of good things. Its way overkill for my stock SSB radio, but the idea was to get one big...
Thank you for the replies.
The Dr. Dipole is the one i was looking at. I think I am going to go with the inverted setup, but it all depends on how easy it is to get it where i need it to be. Does anyone have a good resource for installing the dipole?
I am not too concerned with talkimg locally...
I'm going to put together my first base station but I just wanted to run it by the forum first.
What i'm thinking about doing is buying a $30 wire dipole from ebay which I will string up as high as I can get it from tree to tree in my backyard, probably around 20 or 25 feet. The coax will run...
I was going to make this very thread. I'm looking to start my first base station, dont plan to ever run more than 100 watts, what kind should i go with?
Strongly considering the Jetstream JTPS31MB
