Switch, electrolytic capacitors usually have oil in them and over time ~20 years or so (although not carved in stone) the oil can, and sometimes do, dry up mostly due to leakage and/or heat. One good indicator is when the cap "bulges" on one or both ends. But I've seen some 25+ years old that...
.......I understand what you're saying, but I agree with Switch Kit, I've ran and still run (Yaesu 101EE) 25+ year old radios with no problem. Electrolytic caps can dry up after ~20 years of age.....but some do not. Yes SBE went out of bussiness along time ago along with many others, like: Tram...
........So what would would the price be if it were yours? He sounds like he's happy with what he has.....he shared his find with us....so it's obivious that it's special to him. sportygreg, you made a good find, and overdrive is correct, they were real talkers, and the ones that still survive...
I can tell you from experience.....if you're soldering something like coax, mic,ect.....wearing nothing but shorts, keep your work over the desk, bench or table. Molten solder on a bare leg has been known to cause a rapid onset of colorfull vocabulary
I have a Maco Comet on one (from Lowes) which has been up for over a year. As stated before....guy wires or ropes is a must. The weakest part of the telecopic mast is the top section....it's kind of thin walled and will bend in high winds. The advantage is; if you know ahead of time that high...
...............If the Gov. thinks that a $10,000 fine is a just penalty for me talking on 27.475.....so be it. Funny though, people convicted for drunk driving usually don't get that....along with stealing, certian crimes of violence, ect. Something wrong with that picture. I would understand...
.........Against the law? I'll go along with petey_racer on that one, no biggie there. I hear alot of freebanders on AM as well.....so freeband channels being concidered SSB only frequencies dosen't make much sense. Besides....all he was asking was some info on his radio, not laws or rules. With...
........No reason?...... 1, to get away from a congested 1-40 range. 2, the channels are in that radio (avoid the 10 meter band) so why not use them? 3, his choise.....is all the reason needed.
You're welcome, also I forgot to mention that they have awesome echo capibilities, set up right...they sound great. Then there's that endless repeating thing
I've have a couple of friends that have Magnums, S3..S9 they haven't been clipped (butchered) and I can honestly tell you that I want one. My friend brought over his S9.....the thing has two mic plugs (don't know why) we hooked it up on my power supply, put two different mics on it and had a...
Switch, you mentioned the dual clarifier not open. I have a Galaxy Pluto (not a "real" Galaxy) and the coarse part of the clarifier does "slide" on TX.....alot. The fine part only changes the RX. I figured the Mirage was the same....or are you wanting both the coarse and fine to change on TX?
.........I have one that had the same problem plus alot of digital noise. After not finding anything on the net, I removed the board and found cracked/broken solder joints at the volume slide control. After re-soldering them, the mic works like a new one. I wished I'd seen this thread much...
CW wrote: "If we are going on "taste", I have never found any alcoholic drinks to taste "good". YECH! To me, they all stink and taste WORSE" .......Here in Tennessee we have a "brew" called "Apple Pie" which I don't think you will find in any store. I myself don't like the taste of whisky of any...
I'm glad you didn't get hurt any more than you did, very lucky in that part. Just keep an eye on the painful areas for extreme swelling (some swelling is to be expected) and/or brusing that gets worse, and won't go away. Not trying to freak you out or anything, but I am a former EMT ~10 years...
.........Very good tip, after you're in the hobby for awhile, you will notice that people who constantly ask for radio checks either get ignored....or lied to (you're squeeling, no modulation or...."you got me in the strawberry patch.....50 miles away")
