Anyone had any personal experience with the Tagra bt-101 antenna? Its a copy of the Astroplane. Back in the day..Astroplane was the Thing(top ground plane out there) Is Tagras copy close to the orig. or should I Pass and look for something else? Thank You.
Don't Buy It! You would do better running a coat hanger. There are some good antennas out there that are small..you need to do more checking around before you spend your money on Junk! Like I was told many years ago..buy the best antenna that you can afford!
how much Drive(watts out of the radio) do I need to run a newer solid state amplifier? I've heard a lot of thing like cooking the finals in the radio..to killing the new amp by throwing too much power through it..so I want the straight scoop on what is what before I switch out the old tube amp...
I have heard of Larrys from a old Ham operator that I know...took the 50+ mile trip to McKenny..it was well worth my time! Fixed up a old cobra 142 gtx and wired back up the old D-104 for next to nothing! Nice Guy who knows what Hes Doing! Hes My Tech!
I ran across this TGM MQ-1-CB 11 Meter Antenna that they call a Hybrid Quad Antenna, and they say Polarization is Horizonal & Vertical without switching due to reflector design. Then it says I need to install a 1:1 Balum on the feed line that becomes part of the antenna and it will be Omni...
I have been told that the length of the coax cable makes a big difference..to use a minium of 50 feet..if your running a amplifier! Is this True or False? Also the type of coax makes a difference..? Is one coax better than others..will it effect your SWR or output power? I've been out of radio...
I'll use your ideas on cleaning the amp. I did not realize that electrical contact cleaner ate plastic parts..and due to the age of the amp..I want to play it safe!
Once I get it cleaned up better than it is now.. I'll take it to a tech to have him check it over before I plug it in or anything...
can I clean the inside if the amp with spray electrical contact cleaner..and can the tubes be cleaned also? Its very dirty and the guy that had it smoked for years!
Getting back into radio..out for 30+ years. A old Ham Friend offered me a older Contex 150 from Biggs Electronics. Had to get into his attic to find it,in all the dirt and cobwebs.. its pretty ruff and covered with dirt and grime! Is it worth saving..was it any good? Any/All info on this amp...
thirty so years ago I had a Shakespeare Big Stick antenna(what a piece of ..)and from then on..no fiberglass antennas for me. their all fiberglass dipoles in the first place..seen too many of all brands just snap under winds. Aluminum antennas are the only way to go(for me any ways...)
