Ok, so let me ask those that have experience with both the K3 and TS-590S...If I were to purchase the KX3 and equip it as follows...
Basic Radio
KXPA100 High-Performance 160-6 meter, 100-W Amplifier
KXFL3 Roofing Filter Module (500/1500/2700/3800 Hz)
KXAT100 Wide-Range 100-W ATU with Dual...
I'm glad I've held off on my home base rig purchase. I might just give this some serious thought! :thumbup1: I've wanted a K3, but can't swing it. So, I was leaning towards a Kenwood TS-590S. But now...
Any guess as to the price of radio plus options...
KXPA100 amp
KXAT100 ATU...
Have a couple of vertical antennas that I'm looking at to pair with a TS-2000X base rig and would appreciate any comments or reviews on them...
Cushcraft R8
HYG-AV-640
MFJ-2990
Thanks!
Thanks Trucker. Yes, I wanted to see the various ideas folks would come up with on spending my money. It's given me lots to think about. In the end, I'll have to pick a balance between a radio that I won't have to upgrade in the short term and a quality antenna system.
Thanks for all the good discussion here! So much to digest.
As for the rig, I'm leaning towards the TS-2000X and KT-100 (would love a K3, but that would cut me short on antenna $). Any consensus here on a G5RV? Also looking at a "W5GI Mystery Antenna".
Thanks all. Looking at both the FT-950 and TS-2000X for rigs. Now for antennas. I live in a subdivision on a 3/4 acre lot. It would be in the backyard where my shop is. Roofline crest is about 20 ft up off the ground. I also have 8 trees that top out about 40ft or so. Decisions...
Theoretically, of course.:) Just interested in seeing how others would spend 2-3k on a shack. Obviously 2k would be better than 3k. :)
Here's the deal. New "Extra" here with zero/nada Base equipment (currently mobil only with an FT-857D). With a budget of 2-3k, what would "you" purchase to...
Thanks! :) See you're from Joplin. I hope you folks are getting back on your feet and somewhat back to normal. I'm south of Tuscaloosa here in 'Bama and saw firsthand the damage there.
Got my call sign after passing the Tech/General. Don't care for it, so I'm going to apply for a vanity call after (hopefully) passing my Amateur Extra on the 4th. :)
