The elements are different sizes. The plus 2 is nearly twice the diameter. I believe you should be able to put a 3 element into a 2 microphone. I have never tried it though.
I have a few of the 23ch 29’s, and one 29GTL and one first model 29LTD (no classic etc). They all work very well. I am not really an AM only type, so I got rid of the rest I had so they would be used at least. Overall, I would have to agree with Sunbulls.
I have a friend that has run these microphones and we have had alot of trouble with the cords failing prematurely. That is the only gripe I would have. Otherwise they seem pretty good for what they are.
I remember seeing some talk of “Jack” some time back. I had completely forgotten I had this until I found it. Not too sure whats out there for schematics. They are likely covered elsewhere, but it does have one for the 148GTL-DX. Regardless, it was cool to cone across this twelve plus years later!
Are you sure the control really does nothing? I would try a radio with a slider or the ability to move frequency on am and tune around on channel until you can hear the tone from the carrier. Then, move the clarifier on the 453 and see if it changes tone at all. I only mentioned this as if it...
