Don't do it!
Use either 2 separate speakers if you need to listen to both radio's simultaneously or you can use what I once used when sharing a speaker with 3 different radios. I used an audio selector box like in the pic below.
I bought this on Amazon for around $25. This will let you plug...
Good choice with the Alpha -Delta!
Because living where you do, You may want to order some replacement ARC plugs to have on hand in case a high static charge pops one.
Just the layout design of the Alpha -Delta switches having all coax connectors on the top makes it a great choice aside...
If you haven't seen these inexpensive desk mics with electret elements, these ones are good. Just order it with a 4 pin for an Older Ten Tec Orion radio and cut off the connector.
This is what I'm using and it works well and has room inside the base for the switches.

All you need is a 4 conductor shielded cable which is easy to find. For mic up/down, PTT, and audio only uses 3 wire connections. You could use the 4th wire in the future if you decide to add another button for the user programmable features.
The switches can be internal if your mike has room...
As for the rotary encoder, I wonder if the defect was caused by the operator spinning it too aggressively or too fast espcially if you are making big jumps in frequency. That can play a factor in it wearing out prematurely.
I learned my lesson doing that doing it on one of my Kenwoods and had...
Congrats on the rig!
I just said what I did because I like the modern look and features of the IC-7000 and when it was discontinued and replaced by the IC-7100, I felt it was a step backwards. Just my personal preference and opinion though.
Good catch!
I see nothing in the motor pulley box photo that shows some sort of decoupling to prevent some inductive coil values. This is how mobile screwdrivers antennas work to keep the unexposed coil from affecting the tuning.
However, an inductor coil wire is covered in insulated material...
Good points!
Of course too sharp of a downward angle may get the inside V angle under 90 degrees which will effect the feedpoint impedance. I would use 4ft metal stakes driven deep with ratchet straps to hook onto the antenna ends to get it real taut. The counter weight looks good enough if it...
Great concept but not really an easy install if starting from scratch.
This antenna will require a steel mast so a fiberglass pushup mast won't support the weight. A tall steel mast to get optimum height especially below 20m needs to have the antenna motor box attached on the ground then...
There doesn't seem to be many mobile HF radio's coming out any more. Yaesu introduced the FT-891 but that was years ago. Icom is still sticking with the ugly IC-7100 and Kenwood has no mobile HF radio. Alinco doesn't make HF radio's anymore either. Is this the end of HF mobile radio?
Now that...
I was looking at the new Icom 7760. That's a high dollar rig at just over 6 grand.
Many features are great being it has a separate RF deck and you could place the main deck out of the or even in another room via LAN cable or network clearing up desk space. It also is a dual receiver with...
Weird, unless you're SWR meter is off. Before I went to screwdriver auto-tuners I would tune each band by ear by listening to when the static came up. Many times I was right on or close enough.
I can give real world tests to what a cap hat does for the antenna.
In the mobile environment antennas are often shortened down for height reasons especially in amateur bands below 10 meters. This is what causes impedance mismatches at the antenna feedpoint and loading inductive coils are added...
I put that short piece there for a static ball, also an ornamental piece. It does add to the length some but the horizontal radials are still high enough up the mast to be a cap hat.
Here's a pic without it.
For a caphat you need a rigid antenna mast to hold the weight. A cap hat will thereotically make the antenna longer and make the RF currents radiate towards the top and outward for a true top loading antenna. But it also makes for a less durable antenna because if anything hits it the rigid mast...
If you're using this radio as a base, I would suggest using a desk mic.
I use this one I bought from WE2NY. It's an electret element like the stock and I added and wired the up/down and programmable buttons on it.
Just on the talkback alone there us a very significant difference in improved...
The 64 antenna is good enough but if you really want a make a difference go with a Maco 4 element yagi and run it vertically. This will work better for local talking since many local talk is on verticals.
With a beam, you greatly improve your signal but it becomes directional but it's not like...
