Hello guys, i have a uniden madison that when changing channels makes a clunking noise heard from speaker (internal or external). If i am not dreaming it, i think my cobra 2k does the same. Its not a huge deal but wondering why. Is it poor audio ground somewhere? Not sure if this is common or...
I appreciate your comments here Nomad. I will check out the wiring and connections to the channel display when i go back in to change the micky mouse dc power wires to a heavier one thats fused. Thx and 73's
Hi guys, I was recently given a realistic trc-448 am/ssb mobile radio. It seems to be working fine overall other then the channel readout. Missing segments here and there. I figured i would ask the question here before poking around as maybe someone out there is familiar with this model any...
I appreciate the info and comments. I was also thinking one might be better suited to double as a parts radio if needed someday for my aging 2980 base that i want to hold onto. 73s and happy weekend
Just wondering, if keeping just one of the two radios, is one any better then the other in any way ? Same main board i believe 14b. I am thinking its a crapshoot but thought i would ask your opinions :) Thx guys!
Hi guys, i plan on using 6666 as a base radio with a power supply sometimes and wondering if anyone has had any luck with a particular desk mic? I realize the at6666 uses a Electret mic supplied with the radio as a stock mic. Is there such a thing in a desk mic configuration available ? Holding...
Thanks nomad..i will get a 3 wire ac power cord and connect the 2 ac feed lines and the ground to the respective ternimals on the power supply. Then i guess wouldnt hurt to put a jumper from the ground on the power supply to the radio chassis. The power supply case fastened to the chassis. Not...
Yes. I have already added that inline fuse after other reading on these type base radios. What are your thoughts on replacing the stock 2 wire ac cord with a 3 plonger to connect to the new fangled pwr supply ? Im guessing yes but would appreciate your input on needed / good idea. 73s
Awesome. The supply i have is a 30a meanwell i believe. Its fully enclosed. I will mount it direct to the radio chassis then when i do the swap. The 30a is overkill i guess but its what i have here. I was wondering about the ps metal case sitting direct on the radios metal chassis but have my...
Hi nomadradio, if i were to replace the internal power supply guts on my rci2980 base with a switching type supply would I need to insulate it from the chassis or fasten it to the interior chassis / steel. Thank you
I like the 2980. I picked it up a year or so ago and just looking at it now. There is some noise toy that is connected to the mic connector and board that ill be pulling out. No use for the theme of "the good bad and the ugly" here. :)
Just an update. Vr803 did what i needed for low am carrier with rf control knob all the way to the left. I set it at 2w. I set vr13 with rf control all the way clockwise to 10w. The ssb alc was jacked so lowered that to about 21w ssb. Lots of audio not touching anything and forward mod. I think...
True enough Recon just using a mobile radio / battery. I figured it would be a good option to be able to give the stock power supply in the base a break of sorts being able to use an external power supply. Not really a requirment but a would be nice if worth the effort :) 73s
Thanks Recon. I couldnt locate vr18 on my board and then came across info saying 2980 is same or similar as a DX11B so went with that. https://web.archive.org/web/20161027064125/http://www.cbtricks.com/radios/galaxy/dx11b/dx11b_trans_adj.htm
Very confusing trying to find accurate info on 2980...
I appreciate the comments on this guys. I think i will go with the rear mounted ac/dc switch and adding a panel mount 12vdc connector as well. The radio still has its original power supply which i was considering replacing with something like a meanwell switching supply. Im wondering if the...
