    Question about Bears

I have had a couple close encounters with the Alaska brown bear in the years pass. The first run in took place at a fishing village at False Pass, Alaska (1977), I was walking back to the cannery on the board walk around 12:00 am, when I was confronted with a female and her cub. It scared the...

Contact with 65 division Sierra Leone today!

I was lucky to make there also, but it was last year and the operator was using a #501 or #504 for the activation. This year has been really hard to make it to the African continent, not as good as the previous cycle. Did hear yesterday that 258 div was on for a few min's, (Tristan Da Cunha &...

    Yagi waterproofing ideas

I am using the gamma match on my yagi and what I did with mine was wrap some of that black pipe wrap tape around the gamma rod where it slides in/out. It's kept the water out pretty good for the last 22 yrs now (water was getting inside the rod). That tape is waterproof. I also drilled some...

    11 meter is very quiet?

I had a surprise late last night. It was around 8:00 pm when a station from Reunion Is. (Indian Ocean) came across the North Pole - 173SD101. Lucky that I had the beam pointing north and was able to work him, he was S8. The late night DX is exciting, just never know who you will here. In past...

    Sirio V's Maco beams

One has to realize not to believe what the manufacture states about the gain of their beams is correct. In the case of the Maco beam, my 5 element is around 15 DB or DBI per Maco, but after running thru a modeling program, it comes out to around 10 db for 11 meters. Now, not to say the Sirio is...

Another new update for this cycle.

Again from the Spaceweather site. UNEXPECTED CME IMPACT: A CME hit Earth's magnetic field today, Sept. 4th at 1030 UTC. The unexpected impact jolted the USGS magnetometer in Boulder, CO, by 40 nT, a fairly stout blow. A G1 geomagnetic storm watch is in effect as a result of the CME's arrival...

    More on this solar cycle......

Just copied this from Spaceweather.com SUNSPOT NUMBERS AT A 20-YEAR HIGH: For the second month in a row, the monthly-average sunspot number is cruising toward a 20-year high. The current value, around 230, would eclipse every month since Sept. 2001, which occured during the peak of old Solar...

What is your favorite brand of antennas

Mine is the Maco 5 element, not that it's the best out there, but it's the only one other than the Hygain LongJohn that I've used for working DX. My Maco has been up on the tower now for 24 yrs and still going strong. The Hygain was up 24 yrs before removing it.

What effective DSP units with or without speakers are available out there

The West Mountain speaker is good, like mention above and also the Heil Clear Speech works good. I have been using this speaker for the last 19 yrs now and only problem that I've had, is to replace the toggle switch. While I am here - JJ I heard you up here yesterday and called back several...
