    I have a couple of Anytone radios, one uhf and the other vhf (1.25cm). They both work great but honestly the build quality is nowhere near the big three (Icom, Yaesu, and Kenwood)

    I think that GMRS is becoming popular because radios have become more plentiful and the FCC lowered the cost of the license. I always thought that $75 was silly.

    I am not sure about the mod but I do know that most super audio mods done to multi mode radios screw up the SSB side of things.

    Yes, it adds a lot but the hardware is not there for most of it but hell it's worth a try. Edit: Downloaded and played around with it.

    Unless there is a reason to update the firmware I would use them as they are. The ONLY benefit I have seen so far is an improved AM Airband receive, the update improves the ACG response.
