The first 2547 I went through, is now...

On the flip side, the satisfaction you get from undoing these golden screwdriver disasters can be very rewarding. (Although, doing it all a second time doesn't sound as much fun!) I picked up a DX 979 recently that looked as-new in the box, but "wasn't working". I have never seen such a mess...

    Hex Beam Antenna

I have a K4KIO for the ham bands. Be aware, the most common multiband hexbeams (for ham) you will find have a fairly narrow bandwidth on the 10m element. They do not perform well on 11m at all. Not just because of VSWR, but the lobes do funny things and they loose much of their directivity. If...

Repeater: Is anyone going to buy the President Washington to use it for the "relay" function?

If they (the DX stations) are in FM mode and they have the correct CTCSS tone, then yes. But in practice, it's not that likely. I have run a few repeaters in my time and that has never been a problem, but never say never!

Repeater: Is anyone going to buy the President Washington to use it for the "relay" function?

I don't have one to test, but from what I can tell, it IS a simplex (parrot) repeater as you mentioned, but with the added ability to select a SPLIT / Offset - if you choose too. (It will not run in full duplex like a traditional "repeater" does.) From the manual: To activate the AUTOMATIC...

    Anytone At-6666 Pro

Heat is always a factor on smaller chassis radios like these. However, failures of the original AT-6666 due to heat are not common despite the "it gets hot" comments you see (they can handle the heat!). FYI, here is a nice aftermarket fan kit (video from facebook):

What does everyone think about the Galaxy dx-959

I repaired and aligned these ones recently. I got them for a steal, because they had been attacked with the golden screwdriver from hell (broken and completely missing slugs, the works!). Whoever did this must have taken them out of the box, watched an "all the way" video and then proceeded to...

What does everyone think about the Galaxy dx-959

I agree Mike. TX can be made to look good, but the frequency instability is a big problem on SSB TX too. At least it was on the few I have had here. - I'll also add one to the list: that awful starlite faceplate inverter noise (model dependant).

Got my Tiny SA Ultra (first thoughts)

I got mine from The official Zeenko store on AliExpress. (They are the manufacturer of the genuine units). That was cheapest for me, but I'm in AU so that might not be the case for you. No matter where you get your genuine version from, grab some SMA attenuators for it. They are necessary for...

    Sinad Meter

In my unit I found it was the frequency that changed, not the depth. (I could get the meter to calibrate to the far left, but not at the required 1KHz (mine went high by around 20Hz from memory). However, depending on how much each capacitor in the matched pair drifts, and in what direction...

    Sinad Meter

I can confirm, just as LC has said, a few Hz +/- either way on your generator WILL impact your calibration and your SINAD measurements. FYI, I use a GPSDO for my 10MHz ref standard. Relatively cheap, and extremely easy to setup (plug and play). 73

    Sinad Meter

I just skimmed through the video, but it looks like his notch filter caps are bad. That's why at the end of his video, the meter won't adjust to the far left. You need 2 things to calibrate these Sinadders properly: 1 - A very accurate tone (signal) generator, capable of 1KHz and 2KHz sinwave...

    Sinad Meter

There is alignment information available that is not hard to follow. It is important to align them because there are 2 x capacitors that are used for the 1KHz notch filter, which can move in tolerance over time. Usually, they can be aligned back to where they need to be with the on-board...

President Lincoln II plus - Digital mode

The point of my post was: You can do this on the new AT-6666 PRO without needing the Signalink, or any third party controller. Which is cool! 73

Got my Tiny SA Ultra (first thoughts)

There is a python controller available apparently. (That might satisfy your need for some Linux pain lol). Seriously, I respect anyone who can run Linux full-time. It's a skill I cant master. I use Linux for radio projects and pi based servers, but for every day use would make my head explode...

    Sinad Meter

For what you are doing, I would go with either a genuine a Sinadder (if you can find one), or the the Sinadalizer from the UK, which is pretty much a clone of that circuit. I have an original Sinadder 3 here, and I prefer to use it over the built in Sinad measurement in my Marconi and HP test...

President Lincoln II plus - Digital mode

Hi Mike, In regards to a Lincoln II+, I agree. The frequency stability of the AT-6666PRO is extremely good. It is no challenge for most digital modes, at all. I am doing it. It is actually much closer to the stability of an IC-7300 than to any of the other radios that have been in this lower...
