    Cobra 29 ltd faceplate removal

I have used Spaz Stix on other hobby jobs and I can tell you it's some great paint with very cool effects. I can't see why it wouldn't work well on the plastic bezel. Just make sure that you use the proper backing color depending on what paint you use for the right effect. 73

    Cobra 29 ltd faceplate removal

Nomad, finally got it apart. Indeed, they used hot glue to hold the led board to the rear of the bezel. Man that made it difficult to disassemble! Goes to show that you never can tell with these 29s. So many slight variations to them. If anybody else runs into this, just use a sharp X-acto blade...

    Cobra 29 ltd faceplate removal

I did take the nut off which frees up the selector itself but it seems that the channel led display and the tx/rx and ant warning light are glued to the plastic bezel. At least that how it seems.

    Cobra 29 ltd faceplate removal

This is a very old thread but I'm hoping that someone can help me on this. I'm trying to replace my scratched up bezel on a Cobra 29 ltd Classic and I'm having a very hard time. I've read all the advice previous but none of it helps. I've removed all the screws which attach the plastic bezel to...

    Cobra 29 wx st mod

I kind of got it where I thought it sounded nice and loud but no obvious distortion, at least by my ear. At that point I threw it on the scope and took those screenshots. I'm happy with it right about there. I can push it a little more without the positive peaks flattening out but no need to go...

    Cobra 29 wx st mod

I haven't had any complaints from the locals on splashing over channels but then again I live in the middle of nowhere so there aren't too many talking locally anyhow. That little bit of extra obnoxious loudness goes a long way on blasting through the mayhem when talking DX...even if it's...

    Cobra 29 wx st mod

Low Boy this is what it looks like on my cheapie scope. Not great but not too dirty. That's a 400hz and a 1k signal outputting around 35 watts peak on a Palstar and around 120% mod on my Boonton meter. So take that with a grain of salt considering the measurement equipment, plus I'm not very...

    Cobra 29 wx st mod

Wow there certainly is more to this Mosfet mod than I first thought. Thank you for explaining this all to me. I bought this 29 used and full of mods that I didn't understand and you have definitely helped shed some light on them for me. I just found the the way the Mosfet mod was done was much...

    Cobra 29 wx st mod

So that explains why I seem to have to keep my delta tune all the way to the left for clear recieve. I think I will eliminate that mod as it seems like more of a nuisance than a benefit. The companion part was heat shrunk and gently folded flat so it does not short on the cover. I just exposed...

    Cobra 29 wx st mod

Hi Andy, thanks for hopping in here. Here are the pics from the mods in question. The first two show the two spots where resistors where put in series for d11 and d17. It's an 8.2k resistor on d17 and a 1k resistor on d11. The next two photos are showing a couple of other things that I noticed...

    Cobra 29 wx st mod

Lol..yes definitely hacked. They removed l14 and l16 slug. Mosfet swing kit, yaddah yaddah. I've seen those mods done before. However the mod limiter, d11 is not clipped but instead a it was lifted from the board and a resistor was put in series. The same was done for the d17 delta tune diode...

    Cobra 29 wx st mod

Hi all, I know it's been awhile since anybody added to this thread but I was wondering since we are talking about mystery mods I would ask this question. I have a 29 ltd classic which was definitely hacked a bit before I found it. There is a resistor added in series with d17, which I believe is...

    Protronix 3610 Sinad meter?

Hi all, So I've been looking for an affordable sinad meter for awhile now and found this one on flea bay. I've been trying to locate documentation for it online but have searched everywhere to no avail. I'm mostly interested in it's calibration procedure. It appears similar to the Sinadder and...

    Turner SSB Transistorized restoration

So just a quick update if anyone is interested. Went to good ol Home Depot and had them color match the mic and used outdoor high gloss enamel. Not too bad of a match to tell the truth. Did what I wanted...not perfect but doesn't stand out as bad for sure. Thanks for all the ideas everybody. On...

    Turner SSB Transistorized restoration

I see that Rustoleum had a hammered finish light blue that looks close. I don't think I can perfectly match the original color but if I completely strip all the existing paint of and start fresh with it then it may look pretty good. It's too bad cuz it's only a couple of chips.

    Turner SSB Transistorized restoration

Thanks Tallman!! Those are both great ideas which I never even thought to try. I will be on my way to town tomorrow with mic in hand. Folks at Home Depot may give may look at me strange but I'm used to that anyways haha...73

    Turner SSB Transistorized restoration

Hi all, I don't know whether or not this topic is worthy of it's own thread but I couldn't find one to build on so here it is... I'm trying to restore an old Turner+2 SSB Transistorized desk mic and can't seem to find a good touch up paint for the blue color on the mic. Has anybody ever found a...

    Kobitone microphone element(Part #25LM022) comparison!

Just an fyi. There's a reputable Ebay seller who's selling out his stock of Korbitone elements if one is wanted. I recently purchased one and popped it into my Silver Eagle and love it. He's also considering selling a kit with the Korbitone w/FET mod attached. I trialed this for him and it has...

    No modulation on Turner JM+2/U

I thought that it was strange how the black and red are different than the norm initially myself. I did verify that the mic was correctly wired for electronic switching and it was. Did not check the transistors but checked all the caps and it's definitely the original ceramic...
