Yes an external soundcard interface unit between the 901 and a laptop or PC.

If you follow their instructions completely you can't go wrong setting it up.
Then whatever software you want to use, some are freeware some not. FLDigi is commonly used...
I see Commodore 64s at hamfests that are working all the time. Probably a few on Ebay as well.
Pretty old school stuff you have there! It is all a lot easier with a more current radio with built in sound card and your computer! But you have what you have so I guess you go with configuring all of...
I see older Cushmans for under $200 at hamfests.
HP 8640B signal generators for around that too or less.
Scope? Tektronix 465B or 475 can be had for around $150 with a probe or two.
Industry standard stuff for many years!
Check Craigslist for something local.
The old cheap stuff from the 50s...
Yes. The crystal age is over!! It makes more sense ( if you just GOTTA have CB in your ham rig) to get a newer rig that is easy to mod. Just about everything in a newer rig is very worthwhile to have and worth the money.
Back in the late 60s when I was on CB a lot there were a couple people giving out SSB "callsigns".
I had SSB-2626 and Mercury 140. There were other groups of numbers as well. Apollo numbers were common.
I think they only loosely kept track of who had what number. Probably was just listed by what...
Some of the early sideband CB rigs were double sideband. It may have been a Tram Titan, or Titan 2? Neat old radios. I have never seen one in real life. Not even at a hamfest swapmeet.
As I recall, Johnson had one as well. I had a friend that had one of them in his car for a while. In those days if it looked like you had a mobile radiotelephone you'd be pretty cool...I guess..
Edit: Here ya go. Messenger 130A
Clearly he is implying using it on other radio service frequencies, not stuff like that.
I ran across a seller on Ebay that used a ham call for his Ebay ID. I asked him about it and he had no idea. It was just a ID name that meant something to him that happened to be a ham radio callsign. It was...
There is a law preventing the use of an issued callsign from one service in another.
It isn't in Part 95 or Part 97 but I did run across it once in the FCC regulations somewhere. Probably was in some administrative regs or something like that. I'd have to do some serious digging to find it again.
I see a lot of of that stuff, heatsinks, dead vhf amps with heatsinks etc, at ham radio swapmeets but there are no guarantees. Id put a want ad on QRZ.com or similar sites for a heat sink with the size you need which hopefully isn't critical.
Looks like a tube "walkie talkie" in a bigger box. Based on being channel 14 and a telescoping antenna (probably 60 inches) mount on the top. A rather unusual find!!
Nothing to bet or get excited about. It is just what I have heard about it. Some JA market rigs restricted to 50 watts for their license structure, maybe band restrictions. Could be some of that is common with rigs for the European market.
If it is working for you then that is really all that...
From what I have heard, sometimes with rigs setup for the Japanese market the power level may be restricted and/or the bands are not the same as the US versions with no way to change either.
In any event I would not buy a rig marketed to the Europe or Japanese markets.
