    1988 arrl handbook

Somebody had mentioned there was a particular amplifier project in that issue that would Interest me but I can only assume it was likely a multi band 3-500z amp... If it was I don't care. If it was more exotic though ....

    Combiners

Speaking of filament chokes, not that this is my thread, but on the same vein of thought... I learned the coupling effect to the chassis the hard way. I pretty much suspend every filament choke now just off the surface of the deck. However you can do it is useful...in tube amps of course.

I'd put the grid connections back to stock. Leave Teddy's work alone.

    Combiners

Plus it adds capacitance to the circuit which fucks it up for various reasons. It can couple in some cases and to the uninitiated can rock their world. same thing happens when guys mount a filament choke to the chassis.

Can you take a relay out of its little plastic box and use that?

    Coax, null or not?

Oh .yeah one other observation is that the problem with wierd length coaxes is more evident with a reactive load. Alot of issues go away when you are using a totally non reactive load like a dummy load/purely resistive load

    Coax, null or not?

it doesnt show a loss but it will show itself. especially with certain watt meters or swr meters. plus, with alot of cb amps that have rf sensing keying circuits in them, the boxes will exhibit problems with keying or getting hung up or requiring too much drive to actuate the relay.

    AL-811H problem/ question

I've asked about the input rotary switch, you haven't said much about it. It's a huge pita to get to I know. Could the input tune just be off? There are adjustments I think ... Unless I'm mistaken. You will need to figure out what the cathode impedance is for your tubes in total. Then put the...

Have you very closely inspected the input band switch contacts? Maybe spray them with deoxit and move them around some? The contacts always fail

    Wawasee JB-2000 issues

wow. I just found an old post from a guy on here that said that box was $850 in 1976 or adjusted for inflation $4900 in 2025 money. Good lawd! And guys scoff at $3400 for a two tube z nowadays... I guess cb amplifiers can never be cheap enough.
