    a swing mod (more involved)

Ronnie i've never actually built it. I just happened to be part of the discussion back when That one guy brought it to the group without part values. looks like i may have gotten the pot value wrong, as you say the one you built did indeed work well. did you find you had to add that 470uF cap...

DC Grounded Base Load Antenna vs 1/4 Ground Plane mobile antenna

http://www.k0bg.com/static.html the first paragraph does a pretty good job of explaining the advantages to DC grounding a mobile antenna. LC

Pez, any chance we can get a list of these shops? I know a few people that are wanting warranty work done. thanks! LC

    Adding swing

what i showed there was the most basic form of the NPC mod. This mod only has one purpose, and that's to allow a radio to swing to its max PEP (you won't gain any more PEP watts by doing this mod) from a low deadkey while keeping the scope pattern clean. unless you turned the deadkey down...

Snap-On it ain't but it does the job

I have done this, and it is effective. i will say though that i have encountered knobs that required enough squeezing force that it deformed the knob slightly, even if it didn't make an impression. LC

Snap-On it ain't but it does the job

I figured this was useful enough to share in hopes that it helps save the faceplate of at least one classic radio out there. As im sure many of you have experienced, removing the knobs from an old radio can really test one's finger strength, and patience. how many of us have reached for a...

    will this work

well there ya go Willie! i'll only add to what Nomad posted that i have had luck reducing the noise further by placing a 470uf cap right across the power leads on the counter board. also, be careful as the wire colors will be wrong on one side. you'll see what i mean when you get the counter. will this work

yep you sure can. I have used MANY of these for that exact thing. these are the counters i use when i put one in a madison. they have a great feature where you can program in your IF freq so they can be used with different radio designs. However! they are noisy as all get out and will put a...

Carrier control for the Cobra 142GTL. Our way.

Im pretty sure Nomad has retired more scopes than most of us will ever buy. Nomad, I noticed you volted the final as part of this mod. Was this just because that's what the customer wanted? I didn't think you were much of a fan of volting the final because it's no longer being modulated. LC

Help using the keypad on my 2995DX

Hi all, i was hoping to get some advice on how to use the keypad on my new 2995DX radio. The labels on the buttons don't seem to match those in the manual. Here is an excerpt from the Factory Service Manual: If anyone has a way to translate these labels id be much obliged! LC

    Uniden Washington (8719) question

Hawkeye, be sure to check my post in that thread you linked to. the added bonus of the channel selector not silencing the receive while turning the knob is very useful, and i have a feeling you'll start doing this mod to all the 8719 radios you work on. LC

HAM/CB operators ... how old are you?

i think it makes sense that so far the 65-75 age range is "winning". this age group would have been between 18 and 28 in 1977 when CB got super popular. LC

RCI2995DXHP, latest and greatest. As always.

I believe siliconix is the same company as Vishay. One of the big issues i have with these chassis is that they are using the small ceramic insulators on the driver, final, and the mosfets in the amp. notice in Nomad's pic that they don't even cover the whole back of the transistor. I replace...

    Junker 858 Madison

i've been using one of these at work for almost a year now and it seems to be holding up ok. definitely not for all day every day soldering, but for the price it does its job quite well. https://www.amazon.com/YIHUA-3A-Three-Soldering-Station-Function/dp/B08BK3V8X7/?tag=worradfor-20

    Junker 858 Madison

TM86, that mod where they remove L10 and L11 is an old audio mod from the secret CB days and it bypasses the low pass filter in the radio. it made the radios swing to higher wattages but eliminated the cool compressor that was built into this chassis. unless you have a parts board, you're...
