They are not 100% perfect in that some adjustments like R93 (mod meter) and R36,R89 (SSB) Bias adjustment do not exist in the Tram version as they are only in the Cobra.
The Tram D62 is the same (inside) as a Cobra 132XLR. I have attached the schematic and the alignment docs for your use. There are so many questions to ask regarding the no transmit so we will just start here.
Well, ok then. That makes snese. I just got got home (a few days early) and I spent a few minutes at the bench. I was looking at the schematic and was wondering why I would not just take the frequency measurement at pin 10 of the PLL. Many radios are done that way. Well, don't you know, the...
Hey Nomad,
I did clean the trimmer with Deoxit and also replaced it with a new 40pf trimmer and the frequency still fluctuates. I had to head out of town again so I will be back on this radio mid week. I am interested in your method of troubleshooting with a radio or service monitor. I am...
Hi Gang,
I hope everyone is doing wel and has a restful Memorial Day weekend!!!
I have a Cobra 29XLR 40 channel radio that all functions work on and appears to have never been worked on. I also re-capped it. When doing the synthesizer alignment the first 2 test to perform to do is adjust L5...
I had a discussion with the owner and he really wanted his radio back quickly (which is fine). I gave him a few options. Install a toggle switch on the side of the radio (my least favorite), install a relay that might work (to long of a time frame for him) or wire it so it's always on. He...
So, there is a challenge with that even if I could get one. The amount boards that need to be unsoldered just to get to the solder points of the board mounted switch is significant. The operator does not want to spend the dollars for that amount of bench time. If there is a way to clean it...
Hi Everyone,
Well, I was able to spend some time at the bench today and the issue IS the power switch. The feed side of the switch was 13.74 volts and the power out side of the switch was 2.4 volts as measured at J401. When I jumped out the 2 pins the radio turned on and turned off when the...
Thanks everyone for your initial replies!!! I am out of the office for a few days for work. I will let everyone know my findings as soon as I get home. Thanks again!!
I will say that the power switch option does not make logical sense as it takes "time" to actually turn on but it is worth...
Good day everyone,
On the bench today is a 94HP and it is very flaky. The operator said that about 2 weeks ago the radio would not turn normally. It will sometimes turn on after a few minutes and sometime not at all. When I tried it nothing happend right away except for about a 20ma current...
Hey Gang,
My 1980's HP "battleship" spectrum analyzer bit the dust so I am looking for ideas for a replacement. At this point I am not looking to spend $1000+ for one and am leary of some used ones I see. The truth is, all I have been using it for over the past few years has been the 54MHz...
Hey Ron,
I hope you are doing well!! I have been out of town for work so soory for they delay. I actually have been able to get a replacement element for the mic so it is back up and running. Regarding the amp, there are enough amps on marketplace and E-Bay so hopefully you can pick one up...
This is great info Nomad!!! Thank you very much. I'll use the scope to see if changing this makes a difference. Now, to get a night at the bench...that's the trick.
Thanks again!!
Hi Everyone,
So, on the bench is a Tram D62 which is the same radio as the Cobra 132 and is shown in Sams 179. This radio performs well overall but is sparatic in transmitting on 36, 37, 38, 39 and will will almost never transmit on 40. This is true on AM, LSB and USB. When you key the mic in...
I am not a collector so many radios I buy and fix I sell back into the community. I really like the local operators I get to support and its my "ministry" to the community when I am able to do it. I try to keep the cost reasonable so they can afford it and I can continue to buy parts as needed.
