used an old bread pan, switches, and chokes to sort out my primary power supply entanglement. 12A supply running a 5A radio, a handful of mini fans, and some chicken lights for the bench. splice blocks mounted to the back to tie everything together
very limited space in apartment, it all had to fit in this corner and clear 2 baseboard heaters. vertical space was the only way to manage it all (if you want to call that managed)
i like the meters and receive sound of the 2980. not a high value antique, but always wanted one. the 2 k-po dx5000 and the crt 6900v are a joy to operate. made many USB contacts on all of them, bone stock with no amp. 90 minutes is without a crystal oven, @ 63° lol.
now, if i could just find...
rci 2980 with a 90 minute frequency warm up time. the inside is mint, but anything could go at any time. instead of an alignment, crystal oven, external 6 digit frequency display, and complete recap, i got a qt80. 2980 still holds it's ground on AM, USB and lsb, for what it is.
i live in an environment with s5 to s7 noise floor, outside my hands. hoping the variable nrc on a qt80 is better than the all or nothing nrc on the old quad5
keeping on topic of thread, some folks didn't like the sound of usb. technically identical.. i am not challenging that whatsoever. can do you know why with older galaxy/ rci stuff, usb sounds more like AM than lsb? large change in pitch when changing modes. i always thought if both were not...
the nr is now adjustable by 5 levels? the channel selector was the 1st thing to go nuts on my crt. starting to go on one of my k-po dx5000. i wonder if they have the same board. i was wanting to get a external mechanical S meter wired in.
K-po dx5000, Maas, Retevis, theres about 7 names on the same radio. Alinco is the only one wiith people talking about poor receive experience. it would be nice if they had variable nrc like an ares 2, or not quite as much suppression with the nrc. wondering if this was a problem exclusively seen...
27.345lsb almost every evening 20:00 to 22:00 (EST) guy calls it north shore radio club. northeast OH / northwest PA
edit: i tried to get them to change from lsb to USB when they recently changed from .335 to .345, due to Portugal skip
it's a clone of the anytone q5 with red display and knobs instead of buttons. i can't view pdf files on my telephone, ill see if i can find a technician that can look at it at cbtricks where they have the schematics. the only business i have inside a radio is for visual observation if something...
