That's interesting Nomad. In all my years I've never had one fail on me. The one in my 667 that I've had since 1996 still works just fine, and I'm betting that amp is all of 35 years old. I've just had better luck I guess. (I'm not questioning you in the least. Experience is experience.)
Hey Nomad the combiner you linked is for the DX1200/DX1600.
This is the one for the DX400/DX500/DX600/DX667. https://stores.goldeneagleradios.com/texas-star-small-toroid-combiner/
Now I know you can use the large one in place of the small one because my 667 has had one in it for almost 30...
This is why I have a long chassis sweet sixteen that I drive only with a 2950DX or Galaxy Pluto. The extra power I'd get from driving it harder than that would never be noticed and it will last me forever. I have a 667 that I have beat to within an inch of its life and it hasn't failed me yet...
So is that the same mic as the extreme 2018 echo mic, but without the echo?
EDIT...
Oh, I see. It's RF Limited's answer to the 575.
I have 5 or 6 575's and I never really cared for anything else in a hand mic. I've had hand held D104's and Extreme 2018's and they never did anything for me...
I have a talkback speaker, but it's in storage right now as I'm in the middle of a cross country move. It's fairly simple though as it essentially does the same thing as a resistor, it just moves it inside the speaker and uses a potentiometer to control the volume of the talkback instead of a...
Don't get stuck on the color of the face on the president radios because there is zero difference between the silver and black faced radios. Same board, same everything.
Now the later ones they changed things up and added a 6th band, ASC (automatic squelch control) and removed the PA. Again...
My suggestion is to not go overboard with the power from the radio. The finals have become increasingly hard to find. I think HG makes a replacement, but I don't know how close to drop in they are.
If you want more power just get an amp, you'll be much happier in the long run.
My newest export is a 2950DX that I picked up in 2009? Maybe 2008? Not sure...
Anyway... it developed an issue transmitting on SSB about 6 months after I got it and I waited too long for warranty work and I ended up sending it it Rolling Radios to look at for me as I'm not good with the surface...
Things are numbered differently in the 148. It doesn't look too difficult though.
This is a Cobra 2000 clarifier circuit.
This is the other end where it goes to ground. It ties in on either side of R425 (4.7K ohm).
This is the 148 circuit. Looks like change R175 to 2.2K ohm and tie in on...
My guess would be that the potentiometer was replaced and wired incorrectly. It should be a simple fix to move the outboard wire to the opposite outboard terminal on the potentiometer and that should correct your issue.
I've found this to be the best resource for 148's. I know it's for the 2000, but they are basically the same radios inside.
This has MUCH more information than you will find specifically for the 148 and should get you though your issues...
CB... probably a Robyn LB 120. It was my grandfathers and he gave it to me as my first CB.
Export... probably a Galaxy Plus. I've never seen another one in the flesh. (I changed the counter LEDs)
