My old Elmer was W5ONB... he went by old nasty boy. :ROFLMAO: 73, Brett

    Terms on Amateur Band...??

I think Bob85 nailed it... signal and readability. Although I have NEVER heard anyone say that after a signal report. And Blackcat360 is correct... EVERY signal is 5/9 on a contest weekend. Again? Again, again? Prefix please? K5AB...? Ok, K5ABC, you are 5 and 9! :ROFLMAO: 73, Brett

    FT-891 Radio

Does it actually work on 80? QSO's? 73, Brett

    FT-891 Radio

Yeah, mine struggled sometimes when I had it in the Camry hybrid, and that was with a very good ground via braid. No issues whatsoever in my truck. I knew what I was getting with it when I bought it (did my research). I'm the same way... casual user, like to talk "local" on 40. Sure has been...

    FT-891 Radio

I'd rather just slap a CB in than to mess around with that. I have an old Uniden Pro520xl and Wilson 5000 for that. I am curious though, how does the 891 do with the ATAS on 11? 73, Brett

    FT-891 Radio

You probably already know, but there's a fan speed in the menu. I set mine to contest, and it basically runs anytime the rig is on. Pretty cool setup there, CB590. 73, Brett

    FT-891 Radio

That is correct. Just saw the latest post... this is new to me. My LDG takes a cable, and you hit the tune button on the tuner. I use that for a portable setup. 73, Brett

    FT-891 Radio

Pretty sure Johnny is a member here... he makes some great videos. For base station use, I'd definitely recommend going this route: 73, Brett

    Dosy TC 3001 p1 meter

Well, if you're easily entertained by a wildly swinging meter, it's not TOTALLY useless. 73, Brett

    FT-891 Radio

Here's me talking to Little John. FT-891, Atas 120A, stock mic using a bit too much compression, and have the parametric eq set up for punch. He's down around Canyon Lake, TX (New Braunfels area), and I was just west of Texarkana. 73, Brett

Anyone ever use stacked V-quads? what would be the benefits

I had a friend back in the 70's that ran them stacked. According to him, the rear rejection was better than his Moonraker IV. Also, there's a thread on here somewhere from years ago... one of the Needlebender guys in Canada stacked 4 of them on a truss setup. Pretty crazy. Unfortunately, he...

    Apache Labs SDR

Looks like the price has gone up since I bought mine, but that was like 5 years ago. There's bound to be some good quality Chinese stuff out there for a lot less money. 73, Brett

I had a Rode USB mic that worked really well. More of a recording setup via computer, but still... I think it ran close to 100 bucks, came with a stand and pop filter. 73, Brett

Icom releases the new IC-7610 at the Tokyo HAM Fair

I considered buying a 3000... these days they are pretty cheap. But you are spot on, the Firewire thing killed it for me, too. I'm happy with my FTdx3000 and RSP1 setup anyway. :) 73, Brett

    My Little Shack New Shelf

Great add with the shelf. Love the Robyn T-240D... I had one as a kid, and later bought a replacement for it. Great rigs! 73, Brett

Larry's CB Shop - McKinney, TX

I have personally taken radios to Mike that he checked out and said... there's nothing wrong with it. No charge. I usually paid him for his time, and thanked him. I've also seen him tell guys they don't need this or that, because it just ruins your rig. He does good tune-ups and aligns them...

Larry's CB Shop - McKinney, TX

Mike is a great guy at Kilgore's. Very honest Christian man, and he knows his stuff. And 543_Dallas is right... I've seen a few Dallas techs that brought their repairs to him. 73, Brett

    small or "mini" beams?

The other school of thought is, the higher up the antenna, the smaller it looks from the ground. Put a 5 element Yagi up at 60 feet, and it's tiny! :ROFLMAO: 73, Brett

Probably look at a Moxon. 73, Brett
