    My old truck

Ok, that wasn't great wording. It's not worth buying a new truck, therefore I'll keep my old one. Selling an old beater for 10 or $15k, then buying a new one for $80k? Nope. I'm not doing it.

    Mobile installs aren't fun

I was planning to try a coil shunt, but I'm not even certain I'm going to do the 1/4 wave whip now. I should be able to easily swing 1300 watts, but I still need those big stations to help me on the rx. Do I really want to mess with a flimsy whip flexing all over the place and mess with my...

    My old truck

You aren't the only one. My 2005 ram diesel has 377k on it and it isn't even worth selling. I'm planning to drive it until it falls apart 20 more times

The noise was the florescent garage light. Near zero noise to S9 with the flip of a switch. That was easy to find lol

    Base A99 Height question

20 miles might not be terrible depending on the terrain. What are you looking to achieve with higher power? Are you hearing people who can't hear you? Welcome to the forum!

    Mobile installs aren't fun

This is a 2005 dodge ram diesel, and it's not too bad. I had an s9 floor parked next to my wife's Subaru, and after she left it was s1. I gotta double check the cause, but I thought that was odd.

    Mobile installs aren't fun

I'm planning on running a straight whip, so I'm expecting to do some matching. Planning on bonding everything. I've never done more than the good and bad in the past.

    Mobile installs aren't fun

That is a pretty good explanation. I hope it helps someone understand that their "flat match" (I hate that term lol) is actually a bad thing. While my mount was out I drilled and tapped it in case I did something right and needed a shunt. (It was starting to rain so I just stuck a no-oxed...

    Mobile installs aren't fun

The plate is just to reinforce the roof... stole that from BBI, along with the butyl. I tried my best to take the best of the cb world along with the ham stuff. I've never heard of choking coax on a 1kW+ cb install, and k0bg's star washers are a proven joke. I was swinging 1kW+ tonight...

    New First 2 Meter Radio

If you want to get a station setup, I'll send you an FT-7800. If you like it, use it. If you don't like it or decide to upgrade, I'll pay for you to ship it back.

There you have it. There should be a "report" button on the bottom left of every message or post. Click the button, write a pleasant message to the mods and... poof problem solved!

I didn't realize this was a huge deal. I just report them and assume our wonderful mods take care of it. Reporting a message as spam will get it reviewed my a mod, right?

    Mobile installs aren't fun

It isn't even snugged up yet. It's mostly just showing the clean spot on the rusty frame and the strip of butyl behind the back edge of the ring to get a watertight seal. Just running a single antenna, not many keydown competitions around here.

    New First 2 Meter Radio

The menus aren't intuitive. If I use it often it isn't terrible, but if I don't use mine weekly, I forget. It's really annoying, but then again, they are getting pretty cheap now. Unless you want a digital voice mode, the 2730 has pretty much anything you'd want other than ssb.

    Mobile installs aren't fun

I've done some quick and dirty installs and had pretty good luck up to about 200 watts. Anytime I went over 300 I'd have problems. I'm just trying to do the best I can with a limited understanding. It would be pretty nice if one could just install a "ground loss meter" and know where they...

    Mobile installs aren't fun

Glued and almost ready for install I think the plate is 19"x24". Well worth the effort unless the no ox fails me and I have ground issues. I dunno

    Mobile installs aren't fun

Working on a mobile 8 pill install and figured I'd share some pics so y'all can tell me how I should have done it lol. I'm still waiting on my bonding stuff to arrive next week, but I want my headliner back in. Amp ground wire crimped, soldered, butyl wrapped and covered with tape. Added...

    New First 2 Meter Radio

I think the 7900 is discontinued also, that is why they are so cheap. They are practically indestructible, but they aren't dual recieve, crossband repeat, dstar, or all the other fancy stuff, so nobody really wants them. It isn't like buying a used export that is likely on its last leg, or...

    New First 2 Meter Radio

It is an R, but I think all of the radios just say FT-7800 on them. They may not look like it, but the faceplate is removable.
