One other part that I've found failed more than a few times is the bridge rectifier, but that usually fails by shorting out, NOT opening up. I agree with SS8541, its likely the main power passing transistor.

I'm glad to see that this thread is still seeing action this long after it was started. Has anyone come up with any kind of fix for the problem with blown drivers in this radio? I mean besides turning the output levels down.

I would start by testing to see if the LSB voltages at the oscillator are at the right level. You could have a switching problem causing them to be off.

I didn't pull up the schem to see where that cap was in the circuit. Do you have output from the replaced FET? Its possible that a trace came loose while replacing the RD16. I've taken to installing them with a bend up in the leads, then back down to a single point on the board to avoid having...
