    CB Re-caping

So folks, just when you thought I was done, me chimes in again lol. I have recapped the Uniden Washington using Wurth Elektronik Caps. My advice is, If a tech quotes you $180 to do a recap, just pay the money. It took me 5 hrs. It was my first time and at 69 yo my eye sight is piss poor. Also, I...

Hmm!! I'm getting cold feet with the Cobra. It looks brand new and still had the red manufacturer factory sticker seal in the covers. Most of the caps bar a couple are Rubicon. Me thinks maybe I should leave it alone.

Just when you thought the thread was done, I'm sneaking in again. So I've ordered capacitors from Element14, they have an outlet here in NSW and they were the only ones that had all that I needed. All the caps I ordered are 50v and will fit. I chose Wurth Elektronik for most of the caps and...

    CB Re-caping

Yeah that's a good point. the other thing that I was thinking is that on a mobile radio the longer legs would help absorb some bumps, like a shock absorber rather than being too rigid and cracking solder joints. My radios will likely never go mobile, so I think I'll go with your recommendation...

    CB Re-caping

I see I'm in the right place for advice. Thank you all. I'm interested to know if you guys flush mount the new cap, or leave some leg length sticking up like a factory job? I've always flush mounted cap on my circuit builds.

Thanks for the advice folks. I have a soldering station and a de-soldering station and I've been soldering stuff for 60 years, so fear not my friends. You have essentially answered my question. After farther research I see that the need for specified voltages is a physical size thing to make...

Hi there folks, I hope you are all well. I have a Capacitor question. I'm not a tech, Just a tinkerer. I plan on re-caping my Cobra 148gtl and my Uniden Washington. Upon reading the capacitor list for these radios, I see that the Cobra has around 12x .47uf capacitors with 4 different voltages...
