    Cobra 140 GTL microphone woes...

It caught me by surprise too. I knew the 146 GTL does not have it, but when I looked on the 140 GTL, its missing. Which is why I opened up a 142 GTL base radio to see how the dynamike was wired up.

    Cobra 140 GTL microphone woes...

I will try that out at some point. For now I just kept the 5 pin mic.

    Cobra 140 GTL microphone woes...

Appreciate both of you chiming in. That explains why it sounds overmodulated/horribly loud on the Cobra 140 GTL to the point of distortion. The adapter seems to be ok with the two pins shorted out on a Cobra 148/Uniden Grant XL, but at least you can back off on the mic gain on those radios...

    Cobra 140 GTL microphone woes...

Hello fellow CBers! Last night got my two Cobra 140 GTL radios off the shelf, and it was shortly after I noticed my mic's audio being way too loud.... This was using one of those 5 pin to 4 pin adapters. I tested various 4 pin microphones and all did the same exactly thing. Normal talking and...

Pace SideTalk 1000M any for sale?

If I would of had one here in my totes, I would of been glad to offer it for just the cost of shipping. I will at least keep my eyes out if that radio shows up locally or in trade.

Pace SideTalk 1000M any for sale?

There is one on eBay as of now. Doesn't look to be in too bad of shape, but apparently has an issue with the output power. Radios of this age really need a recap.

    Hy gain model 488

In my mobile setup, the foot warmer would stay transmitting after unkeying while on SSB. Turned out to be a bad coax from the radio to the amp. Changed it out and things were ok. I did double check the magmount antenna with the old MFJ antenna analyzer and things checked out.

    Hy gain model 488

Is this in a mobile setup or home? What do you have for an antenna setup? Coax cables in between in good working order?

    Favorite QRP rigs

Good radio! Apparently after some time the display can go bad on them, but like where pixels go missing or lines are going through it. Probably not much of an issue if you keep your radio inside VS leaving the radio in a mobile setup on many hot days/extreme cold.

Did I miss a memo or something??? (GE 3-5811B related)

Yesterday I went ahead and recapped the whole radio. The two resistors in question seem to be ok. (Maybe not the 1k resistor as its at a 2.xxK value. I forgot exactly what it was.), but they were at least in their right spots. As I suspected, it needs the help of that power mic. Looking at...

Did I miss a memo or something??? (GE 3-5811B related)

That Disclaimer is great! :D lol. Too good. It will take me a bit to digest and understand whats going on,but hoping it will settle in and I can understand. Thanks again for the explanation. With these changes, do the rest the Cybernet boards suffer this? Like is there a specific Cybernet...

Did I miss a memo or something??? (GE 3-5811B related)

Appreciate the information. Does it still yield results by swapping C42 and C43 without replacing for a 1969 final? I just dont have a way to retune if I do swap out for a 1969. I really really need to learn to read a schematic and not be instantly confused...

Did I miss a memo or something??? (GE 3-5811B related)

Just got the radio in. It is the PTBM050C0X. Didnt realize the power connector on back has the polarity different then that of a standard Cobra power cable. I will swap the wires around inside the radio so one doesn't burn up the radio.

Did I miss a memo or something??? (GE 3-5811B related)

You are A ok. :) No rush. I was messing with a SBE Sidebander II radio. Kinda neat. AM seems to be solid, but SSB struggles to get much modulation without yelling into the mic. It was included in a trade a couple years ago. Not in dire need to get it going lol. My GE 3-5811B should arrive...

Did I miss a memo or something??? (GE 3-5811B related)

Good to know. :) It will be fun to see how the radio does once it comes here later this week. I will for sure report back on my findings.

Did I miss a memo or something??? (GE 3-5811B related)

That is pretty neat! Do you know what Cybernet board number is in that radio? I was going to try and compare it to other radios. From what I understand, most Cybernet boards need a power mic behind it. Otherwise, there is almost no modulation without literally yelling up close into the mic...

    Sams PhotoFacts Collection

Hello and Happy Easter! I have a few General Electric 3-5813B radios that may need some TLC. Sam's Photofact 235 has it. If you have Sams 235 and when you are able to, can you please scan the alignment as well as the schematic. (I am curious to look over the audio amplifier to see if it falls...

Did I miss a memo or something??? (GE 3-5811B related)

Now I am on the hunt. The powered mic versions of the General Electric radio can sound good, but one has to basically be up very close to the mic. The one I do have now is a GE 3-5813B. I dont have a schematic on hand or know what exactly I am looking for, but I wonder if it has the same issue...
