If you can, get a picture underneath the radio near the PLL. Just curious if something looks out of place or added.

That crystal also looks to of been messed with at some point. Don't think its quite what has been giving grief but making sure its an original part to the radio.

What is throwing me off is that capacitor soldered on the pack of crystals onto the resistor? I don't see other 142 GTLs with that. I 2nd clearing up that corrosive glue. That is where my 142 GTL went bad since it did a number on the diode there. (I forget offhand what replacement diode was...

I think they do not offer a non-SDR radio. The Icom 706 successor in the SDR fashion is thee Icom 7300.

Oddest conditions for me in a long time. I at least did talk to 749 out of California on 36 LSB a bit after 5 PM.

I usually was just careful putting the ribbon back in by using my finger/thumb of each hand onto either side of the ribbon cable carefully pinching (Dont have long fingernails.), then push little by little downard on each side. Surely it should go back in? :)

Conditions are very strange today... Stations are either strong one moment, or everyone is non existent on 37 LSB. Will keep an ear out on 40 USB.
