Customizing can be fun but never holds value.

Agreed AND its not cheap to properly ship one of these "black base" radios either. Nomad agreed to refurb the 2995dx i bought a few years ago and it was $85 from Florida to Kentucky. So thats another $170 just for traveling. Of course that doesn't include the new supply and install and any...
I had my v5000 tuned pretty good but could never find resonance. Then i had to replace the hoop and it was nothing but a problem after that. I also had issues with large birds and owls perching on my antenna.
Prices are up on everything but when i bought my colossal several months ago it was...
D104 m6b seems to be popular. D-rail sells a modified d104 though the price is a little steep but im very happy with mine. If you plan to run power think about a quality clip on ferrite for your mic cord. If you buy from d-rail it comes with one. The astatic 878dm would be my desk mic choice...
First you will want to replace ALL the hardware and replace it with stainless.
Second, i found that this antenna is a bitch to tune even with a good antenna analyzer because of how many different points affect the tuning. Where your hoop bracket mounts to the base, your feed point on the hoop...
Any time i buy used shit like this ill ask for inside pics then send those to someone who will eyeball it and tell me whether to negotiate or walk away.
Americans have been living outside their means for decades.
You might get that raise to $20 but your hours will be cut in half. Careful what you wish for.
Do yourself a favor and buy a high flow fan to mount on your heatsink otherwise you'll be burning up finals. It gets very hot with the upgrade even with fairly short keys. I harvested a fan from a switcher supply that burned up and used drywall anchors and screws to mount it to the heatsink...
If you bought a chinesium transistor amp ie HG or DEI remember to keep your volts low, under 15 and your swr 1.3 or less. If you do not your amp won't last long.
I drive a 4 pill toshiba amp with my drail 955 and see about 950.
What did you get for extras on that 955? Did you get the final upgrade?
Unless you have a specific amp you need to drive with it or you have a good 1446 transistor id leave it alone. How much do you want to spend to make 60 watts?
If you're just collecting then id say its a fairly rare amp. In the end it's your money, do what makes YOU happy.
Ive been in and out like bad sex lol. All is good here sir and hope all is good your way.
Every once in a while i see a video i think the might make the folks in the ham area ask wtf lol. This was fairly extreme
@secret squirrel i see you too
Dont know Arlen personally, im sure hes a good guy, im just going by what I see when some of his amps are stripped down. One of my main concerns was how small he was cutting the heatsink during one period. Xforce quality wavered considerably thru the years and its hard to tell what quality...
Yes, the regular hg2879, drive them like you would a 1446 and they're happy. No more than 15 volts and swr of 1.3/1 or less. 1.6 is a no-no for the hg pills. The 2879C likes 15.5-16 volts
Therein lies the problem. The only specs for HG are copied Toshiba data sheets and we all know hg will not withstand what toshibas will. It used to be fairly easy.
