New cap delivered yesterday. Removed old one, disassembled and cleaned new one best I could with Q-tips and aluminum cleaner (Noxon green). See how it looks in the morn.
New air Variable Load cap is a 2 section: 7-52 and 13-155pF. Same HV spacing /series for 3kv by Johnson I think. Low...
A few months ago I serviced 2 large window AC units and still have more of the coil cleaner left. It should have occurred to me. Yes, I suspect you're right and it should work well. Thanks
Found a V Air cap on eBay and ordered it. It's looks to be in good condition for it's age but oxidation is evident. What can I use to treat the aluminum metal?
Thanks for the suggestions, all.
I use ziplocks for the specialty and large resistors (NI, ww, >1W, etc) and keep'em in a small box. I'm going to explore the 3-ring binder approach. I've seen Jewelry stored like that.
I need to order another set and I want to keep them organized, easy to access. Suitable for storage as my work area is small. I end up losing too many and they easily disorganized. Anyone try a Loose-leaf binder? What do the Techs here use?
On my MFJ-207 I cannot tune the entire band of either the 40 or 20 meters. I use a small battery-operated Freq counter (plugged into MFJ-207) and the coverage is missing 7.200 to 7.370 and 14.100 to 14.600. Almost mathematical, right? Both the 40 and 20 bands are at the edge of the dial's...
Hello, There were ten of us being tested we all passed and we all had pen & paper. I wanted to avoid online testing the camera setups too confusing. Almost no wait for FCC registering my General upgrade so maybe 24 hours after the test itself.
Some people took different exams, it was not all...
I was surprised at how fast it was approved and posted by FCC. I tested at a session sponsored by GLAARG on June 10 and the upgrade listing is dated the 11th. Could it be any faster?
Thanks Nomad, this issue had me flummoxed for a bit. This morning I got the scope working to extent it passed the manual's section of "Test & Adjustment". Everything seems to be working fine. Dr Frankenstein, thanks again for the Assembly manual.
I think I made a mistake via my misunderstanding of Metering. I may have figured it out but I’m looking for corroboration. The Heathkit build instructions have 3 measurements of Resistance that should be attained prior to applying power for the first time.
My first measurement was far too low...
That Assembly Manual really helping. I'm going step by step to verify all connections. Initial attempt to perform pre-power test measurements failed 1st step: Measure resistance btwn Ground & lug/pin 1 of V6 (Rectifier tube plate, IV2). It's lower than it should be by MO's (should be approx...
AND ....... That QST article is the bomb! Circuit upgrades for a 60 year old device. This forum has unbelievable depth in it's Human resources.
Thanks again. neil, n2eye
Dr. Frankenstein,
That manual is exactly what I needed. A huge thank you for the Assembly document. I looked everywhere and could not find it. I've been using pics which relies on orig builder and often fails to capture what I need a day or 2 later.
Trying to stay away from the two, one-piece...
Nearly a Month later, got the new parts installed into scope but have not yet applied power. I planned on replacing every resistor pair (same value) only. After I measured a few, it was obvious they all need replacing. They all show far higher resistance than their color band values (like...
mea culpa,
Got my parts today (all of them) despite the July shipping date on first invoice. I don’t understand the why and how of it all but I’m satisfied with my order.
Now it’s time to refresh this old Heathkit scope
OK, I put in a request for clarification. I also searched generally online and saw I was not the only person w/shipping issues. Thanks for the feedback
Past few years, when I need several different parts, I've been ordering from Newark Electronics. My last order was a week ago, mostly caps and a few resistors, $60 total. Everything I ordered was marked "in Stock". A few days later I'm notified my order will not ship until July 15. :oops...
