They limit the voltage to the inner coil in the alternator and that afects the voltage out coming from the outer coil.

You cannot use the regulator form an alternator for a power supply. The alternator regulating circuit is diffrent from a power supply type regulator. Go for it you will be happy with them! There is an antenna company called centerfire that makes antennas for MURS. We have a bunch of guys using the quarter wave ground plane they sell and they work very good.

yeah the maxons and motorola's do MURS no problem.
