I hope this is posted OK because I'm using it on 11 meter. I've been having some trouble lately talking DX and I'm beginning to suspect my KL-503 amp because it trips the SWR warning message on my Q6 Pro when the amp is turned on. If the amp is off I have a 1.1-1. In another thread someone...
I pulled my Q6 Pro out of my Expedition because the SUV had to go to the repair garage for brake work. While I was at it I hooked it to my base antenna to try out a few days ago and made a contact who said my Audio was off which surprised & disappointed me. Well today I got searching for the...
I received my new Digimic today and want to clear up some misinformation I read somewhere about the Up & Down buttons not controlling the channels. Those buttons are Duel function for Channels & Noise Canceling Level. There is a button in the middle of them you push and hold to switch into the...
I spent a little time in my radio room today checking out the activity and discovered a problem with my stock mic of my Lincoln II+ not driving my system & needle on my meter. So I tried 2 other identical president mics and they drove the system just fine. So after taking the bad mic apart top...
Well finally today I finally got to my long awaited project and was pleasantly surprised to end up with almost a flat-line SWR by shortening the antenna by only 5/8 inch. Ya just don't often get perfect so I had to say good enough for this old country boy. WOO HOO !
Around a week ago I noticed my Cobra 2000 barely moving the power needle on my SWR meter when I keyed the mic. ( tried several mics ) The transmit light lights up on the Cobra and if I talk to my test radio in the other room I can hear it receive the transmit from the Cobra but with no...
I got to wondering if it is possible or if anybody has ever done it. I have a bunch of 11 meter mobile antennas and thought it would be nice to sacrifice one for GMRS because I'd like to start experimenting with GMRS maybe later in the year.
A few days ago while experimenting with my mobile antennas as I grabbed my newest K 40 antenna the bottom magnet came unglued from the plastic housing above it. Well today I cleaned up to old glue residue and compared it to my old K 40 ( Looks like they cheapen the construction ). Anyway looks...
While bathing to get ready for my Grandson's graduation I listened to my Lincoln II+ and experience a strange Garble on 38 lsb like people talking way off in a distant land. No matter what I did with RF gain or Clarifier I couldn't clear it up, so I change the Bands & Modes and it was still...
Thought I would ask a general question of why does adding a amp to your radio system sometimes raise your SWR reading and what are some cures for it to bring your SWR back down to acceptable levels ? I've experienced this more than once but can't remember ever reading any posts on a solution.
Just watch a video about a guy changing a jumper inside the Q6Pro to open up it's 15 meter capability and just makes me wonder. So he gained the 15 meter band but what did he lose by not leaving the jumper where it was ?
My evil mind at work ! LOL
To not cause confusion I figure I better explain that I chose to change my user name from whiteastro to FlyBoy50 because the original name no long fit and it was pulled out quickly when I first started with this forum and I no longer own a white Astro Van. But seeing I will always have the USAF...
Took a few moments this morning to experiment with my new Q6 Pro before starting my daily tasks. In the display just to the left & right of the channel # is the L/H HIC R/H NB display but after following the Manuel the R/H display I can't get to change to NB/ANL like the owners Manuel...
Might be a little early to tell but after trying out my new 6666 Pro this morning I am less than impressed with that little mic hole in the mic. I had to turn up my power level up to 14 which my meter says is 4 watts to make my meter swing to where it does with other radios. I did cut thru the...
While snooping around for supply's I found this shop I haven't heard of before and was wondering if anyone has used them before and how you would rate them ?

I always like to find suppliers that actually list their phone # and aren't hiding.
I use to be able to buy these speaker connectors at Radio Schack but it's been a long time since I've done so. Does anyone know the technical name for this Mono speaker plug so I can start searching for them and google them by the proper name. I found this one in my audio salvage pile so it...
Who else is is getting this snow storm and how much. The forecast earlier looked like a large portion of the country was going to get hit so was wondering how my neighbors are faring in this mess. Looks like we have 2-3 inches of wet heavy snow out there now with more to come today. I'm still...
Was wondering what kind of range ( Distance ) could a person expect to get out of a 12 watt SSB radio compared to a 4 watt AM radio. Of coarse line of sight makes a difference as we all know but most of us don't have that luxury so I'm thinking average conditions. What's been your experience...
I keep thinking about improving the receive on my DX 2547 and have been told Germanium is better than Schottky as far as the diode replacement goes so I thought this might create a interesting discussion amongst the experienced repair techs. I figure it is better to make all my mistakes on paper...
