    Yaesu VX-8r Review

Look at it this way... at least your not getting into D-Star. The IC-92AD is $500 for the radio alone never mind any accessories. So as I see it, you're saving money :) Have fun unboxing your VX-8R when it arrives later today!

    Yaesu VX-8r Review

Good choice on the GPS and speaker mic, but it's also a must for the high capacity battery and if you can afford it the drop in charger. You'll regret not having the high capacity battery when using the speaker mic and gps, plus the drop in charger will keep you up and running when you need to...

    Yaesu VX-8r Review

Congrats on the VX-8R purchase, you'll like the radio a lot... I know I do. Anyway, the stock antenna is not too bad for hitting local repeaters and for getting your APRS beacon into a nearby digipeater. I purchased a Diamond SRH-320A antenna for my radio and it's a nice improvement over the...

    Yaesu VX-8r Review

I would put that cover back on, as that is what it was designed for... to keep water out. As I stated earlier water does get in behind the battery, it's not a lot but enough to cause issues if left unchecked.

    Yaesu VX-8r Review

dunk test Well, I could no longer resist and gave my vx-8r the dunk test last night. It passed with flying colors. After drying off the radio and blowing out the water from the speaker and mic, it worked and sounded just fine. The only thing I noticed was that a little water does get under the...

    APRS via Web

Good news! For some reason last night, 3 out of 5 messages I sent to myself from openaprs.net popped up on the radio. I didn't change anything, but I did let my radio sit for about 3 hours automatically sending beacons before I tried sending messages. Not sure why 2 didn't make it, but it...

My callsign is entered in the radio as KB1OBG-7. Now, someone on the Yahoo VX-8R group mentioned that removing the SSID part on the radio helped him in receiving messages, but I tried that and it didn't seem to make a difference. Either way, I'm still baffled :)

One more thing my digipath is the default Wide 1-1 Wide 2-1, do I need to add any others (aka local digipeater?) or change the above?

    APRS via Web

Well, I appreciate everyone's comments and help but I still have not resolved this issue. I checked the battery saver and it's turned off. I have no filters set and the message group is set to G1-ALL. I believe my radio has to be on and registering on the aprs system for the messages to get...

    APRS via Web

Well, I'm still stumped. I've tried sending messages to myself from openaprs.net and findu.com and none will show up on the vx-8r. I still see the packets going out and appearing on aprs.fi but I get zero messages on the radio. Do I have something configured wrong on the radio? Does anyone...

    APRS via Web

The findu.com message link does work, as you can see the packets and the message on the aprs.fi website. So it apparently appears to be sending the message. My dilemma is that if I send a message to myself from the vx-8r over RF (aka VFO B aprs) my vx-8r will flash the strobe light and sound...

    APRS via Web

Has anyone been able to reliably receive aprs text messages from the web? I can send and receive messages to myself from the vx-8r, but when I try to send myself a text message from a website like findu.com, I never receive it on the radio although I see the packets on aprs.fi. Also, I've had...
