I wonder how much light you might be able to direct to the meter through some home-brewed Plexiglas strips, you know, kinda like fiber optics. Just throwing some ideas out to try and help you with that "cool guy" technique your looking for loosecannon.
I had a 66 with a problem similar to the one described here and i was able to get it working by replacing a bad diode. This diode was on the board just below the mic socket. You might want to check out the possibility if it turns out not to be the finals. Good luck with your radio. I paid $50...
I thought i was following this thread pretty good, but maybe i missed it. A question was asked about which side of band of D11 would you connect the 1k resistor in step number 6. I would like to know that also.
