    X force 2 pill troubles

I'm sure something made by Kenwood or Icom would be labeled accurately, but in the 11m amp game, it's a crapshoot. It seems as there's typically two options when ordering a new amp, with or without a side band circuit. Highly unlikely it's full class A, so we'll say it's Class B or Class AB...

    X force 2 pill troubles

Did any 11m amps ever come with proper Class AB circuitry? Not being RF engineers, is there a truly substantial functional difference? Most buyers don't care as long as it works well for SSB.

Everyone agrees the Xforce of a couple years ago was....a reason they're no longer in business. Word on the street is the original X-force Carl made 10-15 years ago and his new Carl Built are satisfactory in quality and support for being in the 11m amp game.

Looks like RF parts are selling those NOS. That's what the 2879's looked like a little while before they were never seen again. The legit ones anyway. https://www.rfparts.com/rftransistors/transistor-rd/rd100hhf1.html

    16 pill Texas Star 3200-Toshibas

This looked like the most appropriate place to put this. You don't see these come along every day. https://www.ebay.com/itm/294371090531

    Hg 2879c

I guess you’re right and I should have been more specific. TS has had this design for decades and the reputation to go with it. I’m sure there’s better ways to do it, but there’s trade offs of diminishing returns. For a mass production item, they’ve always been able to hold their own. For all...

They all work differently in the amp circuits though, yes? Neither of the above is a drop-in replacement of the other, are they?

Interesting. I wonder how long until TS burns through their stockpile. I'm thinking of picking up a TS amp but I'd like for it to have HG's in it. That way the pills are easily replaceable in the future without having to rewind the transformers and the like. TS had a reputation of having a...

    ZEROFIVE cOLOSSAL 10KW Antenna

What ever happened with this? From what I've read 5/8 ground plane antennas are designed with mast grounding in mind. A pine tree, while quite tall, probably doesn't offer the counterpoise that is assumed. Not that you can't do what you're trying to do, you probably just need to make some...

what is the purpose of a driver amp?

I want to know what it means to build an amp 'Manhattan style.' I think Dave Made from Jersey (?) is the big name over there.

Bias design, amplifier design, filtering etc.

Is that the Joker amp from back in the day? I was trying to find my Joker amp recently, and it looks a lot like yours. The diamond plate and the heatsink sandwiched with the n on top. It's a base unit with 2290's and some nice filtering. I think I bought it off this site, of Moleculo -- had...

    Worst (or best) offender

I'm looking to test for RFI/TVI on my base, and I would like to know what items are notorious for having bleed over. That way, I can key up and not have the neighbors calling and complaining when I'm 'testing' new toys. Or, if any of you have other ideas, that would be appreciated too.

    70,000 watts WOAH

That's from bigradios.com from the 1998 Memphis Keydown. Toll_Free (from this forum) was there, also you can see Sean "bigfoot" from my area (Chicago) in the yellow T-shirt as Bobby T rolls up to the line. Found on rec.radio.cb...
