No. I just got off working 12 hours nights, sat around about an hour and a half for him to get to the shop. He began opening it up and fixed it then and their. Since I was tired from working all night and anxious to play with it I thanked him and left.
Took it to the tech, he fixed it in no time and only charged me $15. he even swapped out the tiny little wire out for a larger one.
The radio works but one passerby i talked to on it (AM) said I sounded muffled.
I still think it's a neat radio and I knew it wasn't an audio monster on AM...
I ordered the radio with no extra tech work or tune ups to it. The radio appears new from the factory.
Sure I could send it back but like I said I hate dealing through the mail. This is one of the reasons why. :) But if it's going to be too much then I will send it back.
The guy I'm going to...
Been wanting to get a RCI 2950 DX for some time. I ordered one from H&Y and it came fairly quick and the "E-chip" was in the box. JFYI Copper had a cheaper price but with shipping, H&Y was a few cents less. :) I temporarily hooked it up last night to try it out. When i was screwing in the coax...
Not to mention the external wires running to the top, to power a light on the tip. :D
Some of us have tried helping him in the beginning. Due to his attitude we all gave up trying to help but keep the thread going just to see what he does next. He recently posted list of people who's been...
"Can almost guarantee the NSA hasn't cracked it..." LOL! When I see or hear something like "almost guarantee" someone is being deceptive! I suspect the manufacture of those radios are being deceptive to you or you are being deceptive to us.
If that manufacturer is requiring an exclusivity...
I have a President Washington I would like to get working. Do you know of a good source to get some potentiometers for it? The PO dropped it on it's face. I tried Radio Shack and none of them would be close to an exact fit (as for the length of shafts for the knobs) or wouldn't work at all.
FWIW...
I got an Uniden Washington a couple of years ago for $75. It was "peaked and tuned" already but no extra channels. The radio works well but the on / off volume control is a little scratchy sounding and the volume coming out of the speaker would go lower if I bumped my desk. I had the...
Family just found a quarter wave VHF antenna (NMO) I bought several years ago for a fire department radio. I couldn't get that radio programmed so the antenna and coax sat up for a WHILE. I already have an antenna for my two meter radio and have thought about using the old quarter wave VHF for...
Had a new CB shop open in town and took the radio to him to look at. He told me it appeared fine and wouldn't mess with until it stops working. He further told me he has seen some radios' power supply get hot just by plugging in the radio.
So yesterday I used it for a while. Even talk to a...
Is the antenna coax ran parallel to or taped together with the power wires? If so try to separate them as much as possible. I was experiencing that in my Ram and separating the coax as far away as possible from the power wires cut down on it a lot.
It has the 858 PLL. The other heatsinks, in the radio, stay at or about room temperature. Been a little hesitant to poke around in the radio with the power connected. :) As far as I can tell everything else appears fine.
Forgot to mention the previous owner(s) did the channel mod for "upper...
Does any one know if it's normal for the heatsinked transistor for the power supply, in the radio, to get very warm to the touch. Just got the radio, was cleaning it up and checking over everything when I noticed it. It gets warm soon after the radio is turned on rather or not it's in TX or RX...
FWIW I have a base station CB that does the same thing in regards to the internal / external SWR meter reading. The internal meter shows a slightly higher reading than the external meter. With the external meter in line they read the same thing. How ever my mobile radio, in the truck, reads the...
