I have a Cherokee 1000 and there's not much you can do to these except get a better mike.Do not clip the mod limiter because you will lose rf gain. With a Sadelta Echo Master and mike gain about half way people tell me my radio sounds great. Most stock mikes sound like crap-I hardly ever use...
If you don't care about ssb go with the 29.There are plenty of 29's still working after many years and a lot of abuse and I dare say more 29's have been modified than any other radio.
The Texas radios are well built-the mobiles are designed to resist vibrations and even voltage fluctuations.I peeked in my radio[yes,I broke the seal, but it was used anyway] and the finals are mounted with some kind of foam material. For something to be rattling inside, the radio must have taken...
I hope you explained to the factory that Clay's "tuned" the radio. The foil seal must have been broken for them to get inside it and that voids the warranty! If you bought it new from Clay's with a tuning job they should back up their work!According to the Screwdriver expert's guide by Lou...
I have a Texas ranger 966 ssb-it sounds like your radio is not tuned properly.Normally you would not get backward swing unless someone had been in the radio "tuning" it and got carried away with the screwdriver! If it is new I would send it back under warranty.Of course, they will not honor the...
Just got one of these slightly used in box for $50.00.How do these compare to Galaxy radios?Someone told me they use same board?Would a DM452 mike sound good on this?I just happen to have an extra mike sitting around.
According to the Wilson website-"some antennas use a capacitor to match the coax to the antenna which is a cheap way to make the SWR look good" Wilson eliminates this by determining the precise point to attach the center conductor to the coil.Maybe you got an old antenna when they still used the...
I don't know but it would be cheap enough to replace the cap and see.The lil wil on my wife's car works great with 1.2 SWR across the band. The Firestik on my truck does seem to get out better than the lil wil probably because it's top loaded and has a different angle of radiation but I think the...
That's exactly what it must be!I never saw a radio with that stuff before but most of the radios I see are older units. You would think it would be easier to use than mica and compound and it transfers heat more efficiently! What will they think of next?
I just got a Realistic TRC414 radio cheap and it works well-when I inspected the inside I noticed the driver, final, and an IC were bolted to heatsinks but instead of the usual mica/thermal compound there was some thin gray material used as backing. It appears to be original from the factory so is...
I recently put a lil wil on the wife's car and it works great!SWR about 1.2 after tuning across the channels.Remember to tune antenna with doors closed and away from structures and power lines. If you can't get a decent SWR with the lil wil then something is wrong with it.
I use an Antron 99 but not at ground level.I think at ground level the angle of radiation would be blocked by structures and you would have a hard time getting out very far and reception would be poor.
My Cherokee 1000 works great but I had people say it's slightly off frequency-I noticed the coil seems to have been spread a little[maybe to gain some power].Would spreading the coil put it off freq slightly?
OK-tuning the antenna was the trick! I got it down to 1.2-1.3 across the channels-probably as good as it's going to get and I didn't want to climb up on the roof anymore. The Dosy and PDC5 agreed on the reading and the radio meter hardly moves.Just wanted my antenna to be as efficient as I could...
They sell those adapters on Ebay. Why not get a 5 pin mike plug and solder it yourself?I recently adapted a Sedelta 4 pin to my 5 pin Cherokee and it wasn't difficult to do-plenty of mike wiring diagrams available at CB Tricks or Defpom sites.
Thanks for the replies!I thought better cable would reduce SWR-I am going to retune the antenna and see what happens.I like SWR to be 1.3 or less although different meters give different readings!Radio meter says 1.3,Dosy says 1.6,and PDC5 says 1.4!Would a ferrite core near the antenna end of...
