Since there are so many replies I’ll chime in and say that the dead key is only good on AM mode. I stated that I mainly talk SSB which doesn’t effect the power at dead key with no carrier on SSB.

I got modulation on lo power now and high power. I'm getting 10 watts RMS. I'll check power tomorrow with another meter and check the power draw one more time. Regulator still gets kinda hot. I'm not sure if it's too hot or not. I'll check voltages as well. Bad solder joints!

Well I found out why my last final wasn't working. While is was unhooking the driver and finals I melted the solder and inadvertently pushed a jumper thru the board. It works now. I'll fine tooth comb it tomorrow and see if I did any other damage.

And I thought I was doing it right for once. My scope is an old BK Precision and my signal generator is one of those new cheap digital ones. The radio came out good except AM mode sounds a little low after I put the limiter back in. It’s been a learning experience but now I’m hooked.

I get to the part where you check R151 for 10.2965 and get nothing. I’ve checked all the components from the X4 crystal to R151 and everything looks good. At the crystal one side has 10.29680 and the other side is like 29.something. Help! AM carrier offset....L26

Wow is right! I just read this thread and I sounded like a little kid. We learn so much. The FT-840 had nothing wrong with it but the screwdriver I put in it. It worked great after an alignment and I have since purchased an Icom 7300.
