You really think the Wilson 1000 will outperform the FSII in 5'? Hmm... I may have overlooked them for no reason then... Are they somewhat durable? I do take this rig off road rather frequently in some dense mountains...
I figured the power in the AT-6666 was decent, you really think I need an...
Thing's still in warranty. I already started a return on it. Just gonna have to wait without a radio for a day I suppose. I just don't want the knob breaking on me completely in the future...
I got the 6666 and I like the thing, think I'm being held back by my antenna though. I skipped out to OH from NC yesterday so it'll reach out. Unfortunately though, the channel select knob has a nasty habit of jumping backwards when I try to go forwards (and the thing is brand new).
Okay, I've got the AT-6666 and I can hear plenty, but having a hard time TX to the people I can hear so I'm trying to see if there's any improvement to be had in the antenna system. So I have a number of potential solutions I'd like to explore with some people more seasoned in the hobby than I...
Yeah I was finally able to get ONE person on a mic check on 19. But I was fairly close to them when it happened so I'm wondering if my range is just garbage. Wish I had another CB setup with a regular antenna to test it against. I've got one of those old GE HELP! setups on a 4 door that I was...
Yeah I'm sure the temperature drop around the HVAC housing is pretty decent. I have mine in a cubby hole underneath the radio and right above the 4WD shifter. It's got an open back so maybe it's alright...
I dunno. Just still trying to make first contact with this radio and no luck as of yet.
Oh... Well mine is in a decently tight and confined space... Hmm... Not really anywhere else to mount the thing...
And for the record for everyone. I ONLY considered the MAX-MOD for added durability. I could give two squirts over the "extra 10% power". I just figured a larger chip could more...
I looked it up and it looked like it was specific to a particular radio AND would require equipment I don't have. :( Right now I think the bigger obstacle to overcome is that I think I'm picking up a fair amount of noise from my truck. AM shows about a 7 and SSB shows about a 3 on the meter.
Yeah I may attach a fan on the inside blowing over the finals then. I can just find a power source inside that doesn't turn on until the radio itself is turned on. And it's one of those Assurian warranties so I don't think they ever tangibly get the radio (could be wrong). I think they just TS...
Oh yeah I saw that, which did make me a little bit easier on this. Just saw a bunch of reviews on the Amazon page for the radio saying they popped. We'll see. I got a warranty. Just didn't know if there was anything worth while to do to help improve durability.
I guess I'll return the...
Well I'm not trying to get a performance mod or anything like that. Just that there is an overwhelming number of people that say the finals blow. So I was wondering if there was anything that could be done to prevent this from happening.
Hey everyone,
I'm a pleb when it comes to CB's and their internal workings. But I'm not bad at soldering, and I'm competent at electrical components and working on and with them. So... Considering all the bad press on these radios blowing out their finals. Are there any mods that the more...
