Sp5it,
Alot of operator's use computer software to make antenna's myself included but sometimes it doesn't work because it doesn't know your geographic location. I build my wire antenna's by hand and check them to see how well they work at my location which the computer doesn't know.
The one's I...
Captain Kilowatt,
That's correct all we can do is be great full.
I love building antenna's and having the ability to switch between them for the best conditions is what it's all about. Right now I am going to focus on my 11m j-pole/slim jim. There are so many different formulas on building them...
Freecell,
When I was stationed at Fort Denvens in Massachusetts back in 1985 I had a qso on a RadioShack Realistic Trc-440 with a operator in Baton Rudge, LA after loading up my balcony railing with a 9' piece of rg8x coaxial cable on 27.205mHz. He said I was giving him a
S10 over 9. The same...
Captain Kilowatt,
I have tested alot of antenna's which depends on the operator's location.
11m 1/4 wave vs 1/2 wave vs 5/8 wave vs
3/4 wave vs full wave vs 1.25 wave vertical antenna angle of radiation toward to horizon is different if you live in areas surrounded by mountain's, tall...
Homer BB,
I have been doing some research on the
11m j-pole vertical antenna and came across this information. Alot of operator's think a j-pole antenna can't compete with the likes of a
Sigma 4, I-10k, maco v-5000 etc.
I think if it was put on a test range against a few
5/8 waves side by side...
Homer BB,
I read that a 11m j-pole vertical antenna can outperform Super Penatrator 500 and other 11m 5/8 wave antenna's if built correctly due to its length. What do you think?
This past weekend I mounted my 11m 5/8 wavelength vertical wire dipole antenna
1 wavelength above the ground give or take a few feet and had very good skywave propagation conditions. Was able to qso with operator's in
Washington State, Oregon, Northern California, New Mexico, Florida. Operator's...
Homer,
I'm up 2, 700ft above sea level surrounded by mountains so I am going to mount my
11m 5/8 wave vertical dipole antenna at 21ft above the ground at the base will give me good skywave propagation conditions which I will share this weekend.
Homer, DB,
Thank you for all of your help. Since you both are here on this forum I am looking strictly to qso via skywave propagation instead of groundwave due to solar cycle 25 returning. I have heard and read that both 11m-1/2 wave, 5/8 wave vertical dipoles antennas can be mounted 1/2...
DB,
With all of your knowledge and experience which antenna will work best in a desert area surrounded by mountains ⛰ the t2lt or the sirio 5/8 gain master ?
Happy New Year 2021.
I decided to build you're omnidirectional loop antenna. I have only one question. Does it work locally and how far have you talked. Enclosed are 2 angle of radiation pattern's.
1. You're fullwave diamond omnidirectional antenna.
2. 5/8 wave omnidirectional antenna.
Is yours...
Made a new 11m 1/4 wave vertical wire dipole.
It's performing very and had truck driver's get mad and tell me its to loud. Had a qso with a driver 73 miles away. Looking forward to more groundwave propagation conditions.
HomerBB,
Thanks I will stay with my homemade 11m 1/4 vertical dipole instead due to it performing better than my homemade 11m 5/8 vertical dipole.
I live in a desert valley area surrounded by mountain's and its working spectacularly awesome the last 2 days I tested it so the 5/8 is coming...
Like you I like to build different types of antenna's to see which works best.
I have a 11m extended double zepp I build a few months ago and was thinking about putting it up in a inverted v configuration pointed north/south. Have you ever tried using a inverted v on 11m? Do you think it would...
I finished testing my homemade 11m 1/4 wave vertical dipole this morning and had a qso with a operator in Wyoming. He said I was coming in loud/strong. I had the base 30' off the ground.
I'm thinking of replacing my homemade 5/8 wave vertical dipole with it.
My research/testing had told me that...
HomerBB,
I'm looking for skywave propagation conditions only so the inverted v should be what's needed.
I have a 11m extended double zepp wire antenna that I can put between 45'-50' that should be able to give me a directional signal with it pointed east/west. What do you think?
