I've been searching for my next 11m antenna build. I ran across the qhf antenna they use for noaa weather receiving and im wonder if a person could build one for the 11m frequency. Would it be worth building or will it preform similar to a 1/4 wave vertical. Not exactly sure of the science...
@AA1QD for tuning I used a single peice of rg8x to tune each antenna individually, which wasn't much of a tune, pulling the nails any farther out than bottomed out would raise the swrs. I'll definitely try your method of using a dummy load, I like the idea of tuning off the harness being...
@Crawdad 10-4 I probably should do some bonding and run a solid ground instead of the mirror mounts acting as the only physical ground. Ill report back once I've done some ground work. My hopes are to put my dx98vhp back in here but it might need to stay a desk unit bearcat 980ssb...
I'm currently using a 18ft wilson cophased harness I used a separate peice of of rg8x to tune them separately but couldn't get a lower readings than when I had the nail bottomed out. I then reconnected to the co phased harness and the reading came down by .1 on all channels still not...
So I've got my hands on a pair of skip shooter antennas and the swr readings I had at first were 9:1 across all channels. I replaced the coax and now im getting a reading of 2.5:1 on ch1 3.5:1 on ch 20 and 4:1 on ch 40 I have the nails pushed as low as they'll go so shortening the antenna...
@nomadradio thanks for all the info it would definitely make a nice eye peice to the collection probably gonna let it slide. The guy who owns it goes by the name Bigfoot he said he got the radio off a guy who went by mountain dew. Don't know what credibility that leaves us but to each their own.
@BJ radionut I was told the current owner would bring it down. I'll have a better idea of what shape it's in when I get eyes on it. 150 bucks isn't too much for this right? This might be the start of my tower adventure! Lol
Ran across a 30 year old tower that is priced right imo. Comes with a beam, what I'm wondering is what to look for, is it worth refinishing and putting back up? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

@snippits75 I've heard getting parts to restore it are hard to find and that nobody works on them anymore. Where would I start to learn on fixing these sweep tube amps I've got one I'd like to bring back to life. A small 4 tube mobile pictured in my profile picture
I have an opportunity to buy one of these amplifiers just wanted to know if it's worth getting and restoring. Thinking about running my President Madison behind it or cobra 2000. Any information is greatly appreciated as always

@AudioShockwav @Eldorado828 I had a feeling it might be something like that, doesn't look like it's in the best shape. I do appreciate the quick response! We'll get it in line just for kicks. If it doesn't work I'll just put it on the ol bin of antiques I've got laying around!
